Day 10: Your favorite female character
My favorite character in literature would have to be Fanny Price from Jane Austen’s Mansfield Park. In a time when women were often submissive and expected to act a certain way, Fanny Price fought that mold as best as she could. At a young age she was sent from her poor family to live with her aunt and uncle at Mansfield Park. She was raised there but not treated like one of the immediate family. She was given certain privileges but not everything that was afforded to her cousins. She had a mind of her own and wanted to learn everything beyond what women were supposed to learn. When she received a proposal of marriage that would have ensured that she would never be poor again, she accepted but almost immediately rescinded because she did not love or trust the man. She had her heart set on someone who would possibly never be hers but she held strong. She took control when nobody else could or would in her family when shit hit the fan. In the end she came out with everything she could have ever wanted and doing so without compromising her beliefs.
