Expected Publication: February 17, 2015 by Howard Books

Summary: It begins in 1853 with the Hapsburg’s being the most powerful ruling family in Europe.  Emperor Franz Joseph is looking to marry.  Helene and her sister, Sisi (aka Elisabeth, Duchess of Bavaria) travel to the Hapsburg Court where Helene is to marry Franz Joseph, who also happens to be their cousin.  Sisi falls in love with her sister’s groom and Franz Joesph reneges on his earlier proposal to Helene and decides he must marry Sisi instead.  The going is not easy and she frequently butts heads with her new mother-in-law with Franz Joesph always taking his mother’s side.

Review: I really enjoyed reading this book.  I love reading historical fiction and this proved to be a great example of the genre.  I have never really been all that interested in the Hapsburg dynasty nor do I know much about it.  But the author provided enough background to make it feel as though you knew everything there was to know about them.  I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who loves a good historical fiction and anyone who has a particular interest in the Hapsburgs.

Four out of five stars
