22217702I received this ARC through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Expected Publication: January 6, 2015 by Grand Central Publishing

Summary: After seeing his younger brother die in a tragic home accident, Kevin and his mom move to Kentucky to live with her father for the summer.  The town which was once a booming mining town is now fading and peeling with age, long after the mining company left.  He immediately strikes up a camaraderie with local boy, Buzzy Fink.  The surrounding mountains are currently being blown apart as part of a mountaintop removal operation.  Kevin’s grandfather and many other townspeople attempt to rally the whole town against the mining operation and its powerful owner.  Buzzy witnesses the brutal murder of the opposition leader and this event tests Buzzy and Kevin, pushing them to their limits to survive in the Kentucky mountains.

Review: I had been seeing a lot of buzz about this book so I was really happy to come across it on NetGalley.  I started reading it a day or two after I was approved and don’t regret it at all.  This was such a good book with an interesting coming-of-age story about a young man trying to find his way back from tragedy.  I really enjoyed reading this book and would recommend it to family and friends.

Four out of five stars
