Bout of Books Character Face-Off Challenge!

BoB13-200x200

Today is Day 2 of Bout of Books 13!  I had a lot of fun yesterday reading and completing yesterday’s challenge.  Today’s challenge is hosted by Lulo Fangirl!  Character Face-Off is the name of the game today.  Our mission is to choose two of our favorite characters and pick a winner between the two.  I had to think about who I wanted to use for quite awhile this morning but I’m pretty happy with who I came up with!

Fitzwilliam Darcy aka Mr. Darcy from Pride & Prejudice by Jane Austen

WHO: love interest of Elizabeth Bennet, owner of Pemberley

PROS: Handsome, loyal, sincere

CONS: Prideful, rude, inconsiderate

VS.

Henry Crawford from Mansfield Park by Jane Austen

WHO: sister of Mary Crawford, guest at Mansfield Park, love interest of Maria Bertram and Fanny Price

PROS: Handsome, charming, good manners

CONS: Insincere, superficial, deceptive

WINNER: Fitzwilliam Darcy

WHY: Darcy is able to overcome his faults and realize his mistakes.  He makes things right with Elizabeth and tries, successfully, to be better.  He grows as a character and becomes a better person.  He and Elizabeth grow together when they realize they are in love with each other.  Henry Crawford will never grow out of his faults and will always be playing games with people and being superficial.  He doesn’t take Fanny seriously, nor any other woman.

  • The Witch Hunter by Virginia Boecker (at page 254 where I had left off from last week)
