Month In Review: July 2019

monthinreview

I know I probably say this every month but how is July over already?! This year has been going by so much faster than previous years… or at least it feels that way. I had a really great reading month though so at least there is that to show for it. I listened to a lot of audiobooks at work of dramatized classics that I’ve been wanting to read again. I re-discovered my love for Jane Eyre. Thandie Newton narrated the audio for that one and she did a fantastic job. I also read some review copies, all of which were great.

I also had a pretty good book haul. Awhile back I had ordered a used copy of Belleweather by Susanna Kearsley from ThriftBooks that was supposed to be in good condition but it arrived and was completely water damaged and covered in library stickers. So I knew I would not be keeping that copy. I went to Half Price Books a couple of weeks ago with a friend and found a near perfect copy for only $7.99 so I’m really happy to finally have a good copy for my collection. I also ended up getting two Kristin Hannah books on two different occasions. I loved her book The Great Alone and knew I needed to read more of her books so when I saw these at Target, I couldn’t resist. Barnes & Noble was having a Stephen King sale the same day as Amazon Prime Day so I ended up getting three of his books. They were buy two, get the third free.

Month In Review: June 2019

monthinreview

How is June over already?! This whole year is going way too fast. I haven’t had as much time for reading this year but I’m hoping to fit in more during the second half of the year than I did the first. This month I started reading ARCs again which is throwing my TBR a little bit but the review copies I read were pretty great so I’m glad I started fitting them in again. I also finally finished my 3rd read through of The Fiery Cross by Diana Gabaldon which is book 5 of the Outlander series. Most of the books I read in June were review copies actually. In addition to reading some really good books this month, I also had a pretty great book haul. I’m really excited to read all of the books that I got. I’m not sure when I’ll read them because… never ending TBR… but they will be read at some point this year.

  • June 2019 Books Read: 6
  • 2019 Books Read: 51
  • June 2019 Pages Read: 3,443

Books Read In June

  • Bloodwitch by Susan Dennard
  • We Were Killers Once by Becky Masterman (eARC)
  • Everything by Jennifer Weiner (eARC)
  • The Summer Country by Lauren Willig (review copy)
  • The Fiery Cross by Diana Gabaldon (re-read)
  • Paper Ghosts by Julia Heaberlin (eARC)

Book Haul

  • Sorcery of Thorns by Margaret Rogerson
  • Modern Faerie Tales by Holly Black
  • A Curse So Dark and Lonely by Brigid Kemmerer
  • The Darkest Time of Night by Jeffrey Finley
  • The Dark Above by Jeffrey Finley
  • DEV1AT3 by Jay Kristoff

And now for a little check-in for my year-to-date stats. I like to keep track of all kinds of different things including genre and format. So far this year my most read genre is historical fiction which is making up 32% of the books I’ve read so far this year. The past few years I’ve been pretty heavy on the YA books but this year 88% of the books I’ve read so far have been adult books. On average I read 109 pages every day which is pretty great considering there are days I don’t read at all. I’m really looking forward to seeing how those numbers change as we go through the rest of the year.

What books did you read in June? Any new favorites or books you’d like to recommend?

December 2016 Book Haul

Happy New Year everybody!! I hope you all had a fun evening to celebrate the new year! 2016 was kind of a crappy year for a lot of things so I’m very excited about having a fresh start.

I was actually pretty impressed about my book buying this past month. I didn’t buy as many as I had been. I also received a couple as gifts or giveaways.

I received this ARC from The Novl. It publishes just a couple of days from now and I’m very excited to read it.

I was lucky enough to win a Twitter giveaway this month for a signed copy of Ivory and Bone! I can’t wait to read this one!

From my brother and sister-in-law I received this stunning book! The inside is so awesome!

I actually received two copies of this for Christmas. One from my mom and one from my hubby’s cousin. I’m going to exchange one copy but I’m not sure what book I’ll get in its place yet.

From my dear friend I got this gorgeous reading journal! I’m so excited to use it. I think it will be really helpful when I’m trying to write book reviews. There are gorgeous illustrations too of female literary characters with quotes dispersed throughout the book. And also some book award lists for reading inspiration. Check out the inside!

Isn’t it awesome! I also love how there is a section to put books to check out and your favorites.

I read and loved Salt to the Sea by Rita Sepetys so I knew I wanted to read her other books. I had Between Shades of Grey already so this month I decided to get Out of the Easy.

I have yet to start this series but I have been repeatedly assured that I will love it so I got the 4th book and preordered the 5th book.

This was another one of my preorders! I had read this story when Colleen had it up on Wattpad and knew that I wanted a physical copy if she were to ever publish it. I got it signed too 🙂

Then to complete my CoHo physical collection I bought the Never Never books she wrote with her bestie, Tarryn Fisher.

I’ve been starting to collect the Supernatural novelizations and I found this one on Book Outlet.

I also found a few classics on Book Outlet that I wanted to add to my collection. I love the Modern Library Classics editions.

Ever since I found out about these Harry Potter covers, I knew I had to have them! I found the boxed set on Book Outlet and jumped on it.

I also added another edition of Cross Stitch aka Outlander to my ever expanding collection. This is a rare limited print edition and I got a great deal on it on eBay.

So that is my final book haul of 2016! I can’t wait to start reading all of these books.

November 2016 Book Haul

Book Haul

Another month gone by, another book haul that has gotten out of control.  But it’s not as bad as it looks, I promise!  It was my birthday this month so I received a lot of books as gifts from friends.

20161129_183750

First off, I will start off with the two ARCs that I received.  I received The Bear and the Nightingale through LibraryThing Early Reviewers program.  I received Love and First Sight from the publisher.  I am really excited to read both of them!14955834_10100216895701663_5947175443050843673_n.jpg

Next I have a few books that I found at Target.  Two of them are signed copies and one was on a clearance endcap because it was slightly damaged.  I couldn’t pass it up so now I just need to track down the first two books of the series haha.20161129_184939

Then I found a few books on Book Outlet.  I have been debating buying the 75th anniversary edition of Gone With the Wind for a long time so I finally caved and decided to add it to my GWTW collection.  I also got the last book of the Graceling trilogy, A Christmas Carol, and The Star-Touched Queen.20161129_185147

I also found a few books on Thrift Books.  I’m still working on completing my Outlander hardcover set of the current editions so I lucked out and found a decently priced copy of The Fiery Cross.  20161129_185102

I made a couple of book purchases on Black Friday that I am really excited about!  I am adding another Outlander hardcover to my collection as well as the 3rd book of the Bridget Jones series.  I got those from Amazon with their special holiday book deal.  Then I bought The Chemist at Target.  20161129_184839

I had ordered The YA Chronicles exclusive Gemina box awhile back and that finally arrived!  I loved it!  img_20161120_191023

I was also really excited about the November OwlCrate which featured an exclusive cover of Heartless!  I actually much prefer this cover to the regular black and red cover.  It also came with a copy of Alice in Wonderland, which I realize now I forgot to include in the complete photo.  img_20161121_122229

And now onto the birthday gifts!  I have such thoughtful friends.  First off we have my awesome package from Shelbie.  The book she sent along with everything else in this package is Starflight by Melissa Landers.  img_20161117_221134

Next up is this killer package from Ashley @ Socially Awkward Bookworm.  So many cool things!  And a book I have been dying to read – Nemesis by Anna Banks!!  It looks even more gorgeous in person.  I have since started coloring in the color me journal and I love it! So relaxing.img_20161116_184522

My friend Kristen (author of Blonde Eskimo) sent me an e-gift card for Amazon so I could pick out some books.  I was able to get some amazing YA books that I’ve really been wanting to read for awhile. img_20161121_202922

And last but certainly not least, the absolutely fantastic package from Tricia @ Bookworm Coalition and Lauren Bird Horowitz (author of Shattered Blue).  Omg these two know me so well and just killed with with every single thing in their package.  I actually teared up when I opened the book to find that not only was it signed but it was personalized to ME from Diana Gabaldon!!! Omg never in a million years did I think I would ever get a personalized book from her.

So those are all of the books that I got this past month!  I’m having a hard time finding space for them all on my shelves so it might be time for another culling.  What books did you get this month?

October Book Haul

It’s been another full month of book buying even though I told myself I wouldn’t. Zero self control over here, folks!  I’m not even going to attempt to say that I’m going to do better in November because we all know that doesn’t work for me!  I did receive two books for review.  Both of them are for the LibraryThing Early Reviewers program.

I also decided to subscribe to Uppercase for the month to try it out.  I put my OwlCrate on hold for October because I was pretty sure I knew what the book was going to be and wasn’t all that interested in it. But knowing my luck, the OwlCrate and the Uppercase were the same again so I ended up with the book anyways.

picture_20161021_130850212

I had two preorders this month – Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets illustrated edition and Gemina by Jay Kristoff and Amie Kaufman.  One of my friends ended up finding a signed copy of Gemina at her Target so I knew I had to check mine for one because I adore this author duo.  So now I have two copies of Gemina and I’ve been thinking about doing a special giveaway on my Instagram when I hit 500 followers so be sure to check out my bookstagram – The Worn Bookmark.

I also had a preorder for The Making of Outlander: The Official Guide To Season 1&2!  I was so excited to get this and I’m really looking forward to reading this in November while I rewatch the show!

picture_20161018_183342852

I also managed to score 5 other signed books this month in addition to the copy of Gemina I found at Target.  I got Replica by Lauren Oliver and Tales of the Peculiar by Ransom Riggs from Target.  And I found The Midnight Sun by Marie Lu and What Light by Jay Asher at Half Price Books. And I also just received an order from Thriftbooks that included a hardcover copy of The Twelve by Justin Cronin that happened to be a signed copy so that was a very pleasant surprise!

My Thriftbooks order also included Blood and Gold by Anne Rice, Vittorio the Vampire by Anne Rice, Memnoch the Devil by Anne Rice, Daughter of the Forest by Juliet Marillier, and Son of the Shadows by Juliet Marillier.  At Half Price Books I happened to find a copy of the third book in the Sevenwaters series on clearance but I forgot to take a photo of it.

I also had a couple of Book Outlet orders.  The first one has a couple of the Supernatural books.  I also got another Robin McKinley book to add to my collection and The Shadow Queen which is a book I’ve been really wanting to read since before it was released.  I also got Assassin’s Heart because it sounds so good.

picture_20161011_175833606

The second one has a bunch of The Vampire Diaries books.  I’ve read the entire first series plus The Return series and they are SO different from the show but I still really love them.  So I’m working to complete my Vampire Diaries book collection.  I also got a couple of Jojo Moyes books and another Robin McKinley.

picture_20161030_154454680

So those are all of the books that I got this month!  I will have plenty of reading to keep me busy for the foreseeable future!

What books did you get in October?
