Bout of Books 34 is off to a great start for me yesterday. I started off with the audiobook for Cold the Night, Fast the Wolves by Meg Long during the work day. It’s a high action fantasy novel taking place on a frozen tundra planet. I was able to listen to a little more than half of it. In the evening I started my advance copy of The Summer Place by Jennifer Weiner. It’s a family drama with many POVs throughout the book. I’m not really sure how I feel about it yet but I was able to read 44% of it.
Bout of Books 34 is coming next week! It’s been awhile since I’ve been able to participate so I am really looking forward to do so for this round. Bout of Books is one of my favorite readathons. It lasts a whole week beginning on Monday and ends on the following Sunday. It is super low key but also has some fun daily challenges that you can choose to participate if you want as well as a few other things.
The Bout of Books readathon is organized by Amanda Shofner and Kelly Rubidoux Apple. It’s a weeklong readathon that begins 12:01am Monday, May 9th and runs through Sunday, May 15th in YOUR time zone. Bout of Books is low-pressure. There are reading sprints, Twitter chats, and exclusive Instagram challenges, but they’re all completely optional. Normally I like to give myself a couple of goals and a tentative TBR just so I have something to go off of. Since I am a mood reader, I don’t hold myself to the TBR if I’m not feeling it when the time comes around. Since we are a week out from the readathon, I think I have a pretty good idea of what I would like to read but that could very well change so I will stick with it being a tentative TBR.
Personal Goals for Bout of Books 34:
Read at least 1 hour everyday
Finish at least one of each of the following:
Daily check-in on blog and Instagram stories
My tentative TBR plan is to focus on my ARC backlog. I have a few that have already been published and a couple that will be published very soon. I am also currently working on that so my plan for next week is basically to tackle the ones I have left. I would LOVE to be able to completely get caught up but I also have quite a few that I need to get through so I will just see how things go. I don’t want to push it too hard or I will end up in a slump for feeling forced to read these books. My selection includes the following:
The North Wind by Alexandria Warwick (published January 13, 20022)
Cold the Night, Fast the Wolves by Meg Long (published January 11, 2022)
The Younger Wife by Sally Hepworth (published April 5, 2022)
The Summer Place by Jennifer Weiner (publishing May 10, 2022)
Kagen the Damned by Jonathan Maberry (publishing May 10, 2022)
Outside by Ragnar Jonasson (publishing June 28, 2022)
The Wilderwomen by Ruth Emmie Lang (publishing November 15, 2022)
As far as the audiobook and graphic novel go, those will depend on what I’m in the mood for at the time.
I am really looking forward to participating in this readathon after so long away from it. Are you planning to participate?
It’s that time again! Bout of Books week is coming up tomorrow! Bout of Books is a super low-key readathon where you have an entire week to read as much as you want to. I’ve lost count of how many Bout of Books that I have participated in officially and unofficially. Many of the past ones I have some conflicts that won’t allow me to fully take advantage of this week of reading and this round is no exception but I am still going to give it a go and read as much as I can, while I can. This coming weekend we are heading down to visit my brother, sister-in-law, niece, and nephew. I am SO excited for it so I probably won’t get much reading in on Friday through Sunday but I don’t care at all because I’ve been waiting so long to finally get the time to go down for a visit.

I did put together a loose TBR for the week but am not fully committing myself to read these books and only these books. If my mood changes, then I will choose something else.
Until I Met You by Tari Faris (ARC from Revell Books)
Clap When You Land by Elizabeth Acevedo
Winterwood by Shea Ernshaw
The Last Flight by Julie Clark
Home Before Dark by Riley Sager
I don’t really have any goals for this week beyond trying to read at least a little bit everyday even if it’s just 10 minutes before bed. I’m really looking forward to reading more this week though so I’m sure I’ll be able to read at least one book from start to finish.
Time for another readathon! I always look forward to participating in Dewey’s 24-Hour Readathon because I love being able to read all day long. This one is happening this Saturday, October 26th. Unfortunately I do have a few plans on Saturday so I won’t be able to spend the entire day reading but I am planning to read for as much as I possibly can. I’m not really going to set any goals for myself like I usually do but I did pull together a little TBR to read from. I will be starting Teeth in the Mist sometime during the week but I am including it in my TBR because I’m not sure if I will be able to finish it by Saturday.
I’m really looking forward to reading all of these books. I’m not sure which ones I will be able to get to but since I am a mood reader I wanted to give myself plenty of options to choose from. I will be working on finishing Teeth in the Mist first and then go from there.
Are you participating in this round of Dewey’s? Do you like to participate in readathons?
Day 1 of Bout of Books is here! I’m so excited for this week of reading. I started preparing yesterday by making sure my two reading spots were clean and ready to go for reading time after work today. As I was doing so, I became curious about how other people like to read, if they have a special place in their home or if they prefer reading outside or in a coffee shop or library. So since my two spots were freshly tidied I thought I would share the two spots in my house that I do the majority of my reading.
The first spot is in my home library. I love to cozy up in this chair with a candle, a book, and a kitty or two. Nika looks like she is also excited for some quality reading time this week! In the cart next to my chair I have my candle and TBR all set to go. It’s a loose TBR so if I end up not feeling like reading any of those books during the week, I’m going to choose something new from my shelves. The one exception is my re-read of Nevernight. That will continue 100%. I will have a close-up of the TBR stack a little farther down in this post.
The second spot is in the living room. These couches are so comfortable and so are the pillows, especially the buffalo plaid ones. I also have a candle ready for this spot and my iPad to do some Goodreads updates. I anticipate spending most of the reading week down in my library but wanted to have this spot ready to go if I needed a little change.
Here is what I have for my loose TBR. I’m already in the middle of Nevernight re-read so I want to finish that one up before I choose any other book to read. I will be reading The Outsider as a buddy read with my friend Laura so this one will be probably read in small chunks. I wanted to read at least one graphic novel over the week so I chose two for my TBR to have some options.
Nevernight by Jay Kristoff
The Outsider by Stephen King
Sorcery of Thorns by Margaret Rogerson
The Turn of the Key by Ruth Ware
Today’s challenge is to introduce yourself in 6 words so here goes…
