May Book Haul

Hey guys!  I hope everyone had a fabulous May!  Hard to believe it is June already!  I’m still working my way towards buying less books.  I think I did a much better job this month!  June is a month with ZERO preorders!  I think it’s my only month this year without any.  I am determined to be extremely good in June.

First off I will start out with the awesome book I won from Rachel @ Confessions of a Book Nerd! She had a giveaway for her 2nd blogiversary and this was the book I chose.  I’m really excited to read it!

This month’s OwlCrate was definitely not my favorite.  The theme was steampunk and I’m not a big fan of steampunk.  However, I am a fan of Peter Pan and the book of the month is a retelling of Peter Pan.

Next up is my May special preorder of The Crown’s Game!  It was one of my most anticipated books for the year so I special ordered it from Kepler’s Books to get a personalized signed copy.  I have since read the book and I loved it!  Really looking forward to book 2!

My other preorder for May was A Court of Mist and Fury!  I still haven’t gotten around to reading this one yet but I am really looking forward to some more Rhysand.  Also, Bloomsbery had an awesome deal if you preordered ACOMAF you got this tote bag!  I love tote bags so I’m really happy to have this one to add to my collection.

I finally gave up on hoping Book Outlet would get the Game of Thrones vol. 1 & 3 graphic novels.  I got them on Amazon so I could hopefully read them soon.

20160516_202024

After finishing The Kiss of Deception the other day, I decided I wanted it in hardcover so I got that to replace my paperback copy.  I also bought book 2, The Heart of Betrayal, and preordered book 3.

20160531_190249

This past weekend we made a stop in at Half Price Books to see if they had any of the Captain America movies.  They were having a big 20% off storewide sale.  I didn’t find a whole lot, but that was probably a good thing!

20160528_140340

The rest of my book haul is all from Book Outlet.  I’m not sure which of these I’m most excited for!  I’ve been dying to finishing off my collection of Jon Krakauer’s books so I was super excited to find Missoula and Where Men Win Glory.  I have also been dying for Felicia Day’s book so I literally squealed for joy when I found out Book Outlet had it.

Have you read any of these books?

April Book Haul

So although I’ve been meaning to cut back on my book purchases… this is one of those months that just didn’t happen.  I became addicted to Book Outlet again.  And every year around this time my town has a huge book sale.  It lasts for almost a week and on the final day they have a $5 bag sale and then in the afternoon whatever is leftover is free.  I also had a couple of pre-orders and OwlCrate.  Because of the size of this month’s haul, I decided against taking a photo of all the books together.  Instead, I took photos of the books as I received them.  So without further ado…. here is probably my biggest book haul to date.

ARC/Giveaway – I won a copy of Braving It by James Campbell from LibraryThing.  It’s about a father and daughter journey through Alaska.  From The Novl’s Twitter Boy Band March Madness contest, I won a copy of The New Guy and Other Senior Year Distractions by Amy Spalding and an awesome tote bag.

Amazon – I wanted to upgrade my copies of Shiver, Linger and Forever from paperback to hardcover.  I’ve also been dying to read The Girl From Everywhere so  I had to get that one too.  I also added a few more to my Colleen Hoover collection.  My one Amazon preorder was The Rose and the Dagger.

Fountain Bookstore – My amazing preorder of The Raven King by Maggie Stiefvater!  So excited to read this once I finish Blue Lily, Lily Blue.

20160427_174037

Book Outlet – I’ve been going a little crazy with the Book Outlet purchasing but they’ve had some good stuff recently.

20160403_17074720160411_17572120160412_17261120160421_17363620160425_19054620160428_17330620160430_153419IMG_20160405_090237

OwlCrate – I am actually really excited for this book.  I love dystopian novels so I was glad to have that be the theme for April.

20160421_180843

Annual Northfield Book Sale – I went on the first night of the sale, Tuesday, and got the books you see in the first photo.  Then Saturday was the $5 bag sale in the morning.  In the afternoon I went back for the free leftovers.  I also hauled a ton of books for my mom who was out of town for the weekend.  A few of these books are to either add to my collection (ex. Gone With the Wind) and others are to replace a worn out edition that I already have (ex. Girl With A Pearl Earring).

And there is my massive book haul.  Definitely putting myself on a book buying ban with the exception than the books I already have on preorder.

Seriously you guys, this book is so awesome!  I read it for the first time in December and since then have read it two more times.  I rated it 5 stars and marked it as one of my top faves of 2015.  Read my original review here.  In fact, I love this book so much I bought it in every format available!

December Book Haul

December is over already?!  What?!  This year has gone by so quickly.  I got some great books this month.  Several were gifts so I don’t feel so bad for having so many books on my haul this month.

So far, the best part of my haul this month was getting Shattered Blue by Lauren Bird Horowitz.  I’ve gushed about this book so much since reading it!  It was that good, you guys!  And Lauren is literally the nicest person ever!  I’ve had so much fun talking and getting to know her this month!  #NINJAOTTERSOX forever!  She not only signed my book, sent me bookmarks and posters but she and her adorable dog, Ninja, also sent my kitties some goodies!  If you missed my review, check it out here!

I also couldn’t resist buying the 20th Anniversary edition of Outlander any longer.  I had racked up some Amazon points too so it didn’t cost me that much.

20151227_194918

Next up was a beautiful boxed set of Jane Austen hardcovers from Amazon.  They are in a gorgeous case that has a magnetic closure.  Each book has illustrations and a different color cover.

I also found some great books on Book Outlet.  Probably more than I should have but oh well.  Can’t beat those prices!  Plus, I just had to get the Book Outlet Bear… look how cute he is!

  • The Coldest Girl in Coldtown by Holly Black
  • Daughter of Smoke & Bone by Laini Taylor
  • Days of Blood & Starlight by Laini Taylor
  • A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L’Engle
  • Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi
  • Smoke and Mirrors by Neil Gaiman
  • Smith of Wootton Major by JRR Tolkien
  • Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell (signed copy)

Some of my other Book Outlet buys include the Jasper Dent series which I have heard nothing but good things about from my pal Ashley @ Socially Awkward Bookworm and The 100 by Kass Morgan.  They are supposed to arrive on Wednesday (12/30) but I haven’t had much luck with getting BO packages by the estimated delivery date.

In October I won a giveaway for Daughters Unto Devils by Amy Lukavics and it finally arrived this month!  I have been dying to read this book.

I am a person who LOVES making lists.  A few years ago my friend had given me the Music Listography book which is totally awesome!  I always wished that there was one for books and/or movies.  I finally found them and got them as well as the travel one.

20151219_113318

Beginning January 1st I will be doing a read-along with my buddy, Erica from Looking To The Stars.  We will be reading Under the Dome by Stephen King.  I already had it on Kindle but I prefer paperbacks, so I got the paperback so I can bounce back and forth if I need to.  I am super excited to read this with her.

This month’s OwlCrate was totally awesome!  This is my 3rd box and it was definitely my favorite.  It came with the following items:

  • DaVinci’s Tiger by LM Elliott – I hadn’t heard of this one before but it sounds like something I will love!
  • Reading journal from Chronicle Books – There are 3 sections inside to write down books you want to read, favorite books and passages, and books you have loaned out.  I haven’t used it yet but I have ideas for it.
  • Reading At The Cafe soy candle from Frostbeard Studios – This candle smells like coffee and chocolate.  So good!
  • To-Do List notepad from Boy Girl Party – So cute with the book octopus!  I love lists so this is perfect for me!
  • The Little Prince magnet by Sandra Vargas – I haven’t read this book but the magnet is so cute!
  • word magnet set exclusive for DaVinci’s Tiger

For Christmas I didn’t get many books but the ones I did get are awesome!  My parents got me the Outlander coloring book!  I am SO excited about this but I’m nervous to color in it haha.  And Ethan got me Once Again by Liz Braswell & Cameron Dokey for my stocking.  I have been so into fairy tale retellings this year so I’m excited to read even more.

20151226_142523

I got a great package from my OTSPSecretSister this month!  It’s been really fun getting to know her over the past few months.  She got me an awesome tote bag, a note pad with book tabs, a couple mechanical pencils and she even made me that beautiful scarf cowl.  Tomorrow will be the perfect day to wear it since we have a big snow storm coming in!  And she got me Glow by Amy Kathleen Ryan.  I had never heard of this book before but it sounds really good.

20151226_122139.jpg

I also got my TBTB Santa package this month and my secret Santa, Ashley, totally spoiled me!  She got me some collections of Emily Dickinson, The Knife of Never Letting Go by Patrick Ness, the Crowley Funko Pop and she painted the awesome Castiel stemless wine glass!  And the chocolate lover in me was jumping for joy from all the chocolate she sent!  And since she is from Texas, she included a Texas magnet.  Such a thoughtful package!

20151226_123035

For Christmas my father-in-law gave me a gift card to my favorite store, Half Price Books!  So I headed up there today.  They have a 20% off storewide sale this weekend so I was eager to take advantage of that!  I found some awesome books!  I am working on upgrading my favorite series to hardcovers so I was so happy to find some of the hardcovers for the Sookie Stackhouse series that I needed.

20151227_171649.jpg

  • The Ask and the Answer by Patrick Ness
  • Dead Until Dark by Charlaine Harris
  • Dead As A Doornail by Charlaine Harris
  • Library Of Souls by Ransom Riggs
  • Dead And Gone by Charlaine Harris
  • Burning Bright by Tracy Chevalier
  • A Game of Thrones: The Graphic Novel vol. 2

After Half Price Books I had to make a run over to Barnes & Noble to see if they had any goodies for me.  And I was so happy to find a signed copy of Outlander by Diana Gabaldon!

20151227_172655

In addition to these awesome physical books, I got some great deals on Kindle books this month.

  • The Orchardist by Amanda Coplin
  • A Wicked Thing by Rhiannon Thomas
  • Snow Like Ashes by Sara Raasch
  • Krampus: The Yule Lord by Bram
  • The Assassin’s Blade by Sarah J. Maas

So that’s everything for this month!  Stay tuned for my December wrap-up and yearly survey which will be coming up soon!

September Book Haul

So much for putting myself on a book buying ban!  I told myself I was only going to get my pre-orders but I ended up buying a bunch more. I also got a bunch through giveaways so at least it isn’t as bad as it looks. IMG_20150930_192007

I decided that I loved certain series so much that I needed to upgrade my paperbacks to hardcovers.  I got A Court of Thorns and Roses, Throne of Glass series, The Grisha trilogy and The Lunar Chronicles.  I’ll be selling my paperbacks the next time I’m at Half Price Books.

IMG_20150930_185431

My last Half Price Books run I got only a few books for myself and some for Ethan.  And of course after I took this photo I realized I was missing one I had gotten for myself.  In addition to those in the photo I also got The Complete Poems of Robert Frost.

IMG_20150930_190352

The rest are pretty self-explanatory….

I also have some other books I have ordered but they haven’t arrived yet so I won’t be including them until my October book haul.  I have a couple of pre-orders as well next month.

I’m really looking forward to reading all of these books!  And that’s it for my haul this month!  Thanks for stopping by!  Tune in tomorrow to check out my Halloweeny TBR/TBW!
