The Sunshine Blogger Award

I was nominated by Becca and Books for the Sunshine Blogger Award!  Thanks a million Becca!  If you haven’t seen her blog yet, what are you waiting for… go check her out!

Becca  has asked me 11 questions and in returned I nominate some peeps and ask them 11 questions.  So here we go!

Becca’s Questions:

1. What book do you recommend to the non-readers?

I don’t really have one book I use to recommend to non-readers.  Usually, if I know the person pretty well, I will recommend a book I’ve read that I know corresponds with an interest of theirs.

2. Favorite ethnic food?

I love Chinese food.  And I know that American Chinese is not the same as real Chinese.  But I could eat it every day.  I just love it so much.

3. Describe your dream reading room/nook/place.

Oh god.  I do this all the time, especially after seeing all kinds of awesome reading spaces on Pinterest.  It would definitely be a room with at least one wall of floor to ceiling bookshelves, complete with a comfy couch, big window with a great view.

4. How many books do you have?

I actually took an inventory of my books earlier this year but now for the life of me, I can’t remember what the final count was.  Including children’s and coffee table books I think it was somewhere above 400.

5. You can only keep 3 of the books you own. Which do you choose?

Oh god… Only 3?!?!?!  Yikes.  Ok well first off I would need to go quick pick up one of those giant copies of Jane Austen that has all of the books in one lol.  Just kidding.  If I already owned that I would have to choose that but for the sake of the question I’ll go with Pride & Prejudice.  Then Outlander by Diana Gabaldon and Gone with the Wind by Margaret Mitchell.

6. What would the Sorting hat choose for you?

I’ve always felt that I have pretty similar traits with Gryffindor but last week I finally joined Pottermore and I was sorted into Ravenclaw.

7. What’s the best beverage and snack to drink and eat while reading.

I usually don’t eat when I’m reading, unless it’s something like M&Ms.  Otherwise I just love having some sparkling water when I’m reading.

8. Hobbies beside blogging and reading?

I love hiking, photography, live music, and movies.

9. Attach your favorite bookish decor item.

I don’t really have much in terms of bookish decor but in the future I would love to have some wall art of some of my favorite books.  I’ve been obsessed with looking at things like that on Etsy lately.

10. If you could have a bookish superpower, what would you want it to be?

I wish I could take a book, open the page and be transported into the world of that particular book.  I want to see everything happen right in front of me.  That would be awesome.

11. What’s your 2015 Reading Challenge and how much of it have you completed?

My reading challenge was originally set to 75 books but I’m well past that now so I upped it to 110 which is one more than I read last year.  I’m currently reading my 88th book.

And now for my questions:

  1. Do you have a specific way you arrange your bookshelves?
  2. If you were trapped on a desert island with a book character, who would you choose and why?
  3. What is your most anticipated book release this coming fall?
  4. What is your preferred book format?
  5. If you could meet any living author, who would it be?
  6. What is your favorite book of all time?
  7. If you could live anywhere in the world, where would you choose?
  8. Where is your favorite place to read?
  9. What is your favorite TV show?
  10. Choose one: Vampires or Werewolves
  11. What is your favorite genre?

The Blogger Recognition Award

A huge thank you to Shelbie @ Lu-Lu’s Rants & Reads and Kay @ The Desert Bibliophile for nominating me for this award!  You both have such awesome blogs and I love reading your posts!

This award was originally created by Eve over at Edge of the Night

  • Select 15 other blogs you want to give the award to. Do some digging if you must! Find those blogs. You cannot nominate yourself or the person who has nominated you.
  • Write a post to show off your award! Give a brief story of how your blog got started, and give a piece or two of advice to new bloggers. Thank whoever nominated you, and provide a link to their blog. List who you’ve nominated in the post. Make sure to also attach the award itself! (You can do this by right-clicking, saving, and uploading the image above).
  • Comment on each blog and let them know you’ve nominated them. Provide a link to the award post you created.
  • Provide a link to the original post on Edge of Night. That way, anyone can find the original guidelines and post if needed, and we can keep it from mutating and becoming confusing!

So here is the story of my blog!  I had started blogging a couple of years ago with a general blog about my life and different things I was working on or doing.  But I found myself posting mostly about the books I was reading and decided that I wanted to create a blog just for books.  I wanted to get more involved, meet new people and help spread the word about great books, whether new or old.  I struggled with finding a name for my blog.  My husband actually came up with the name!  I was getting mad because all of my ideas were taken and I asked him for help.  The name comes from this bookmark I had purchased in 2009 when I was in Italy.  You can read the full story behind the name in my first blog post here!

Now for some advice:

  • Have fun with your blog!  It can be a lot of work trying to keep up with blogging so you want to make sure you have fun with it.  The whole point of starting my blog was to have fun discussing books with other people and sharing my love of books.  If you’re tired of just reviewing books, look around for some of the fun book tags floating around the blogosphere.
  • Connect with your fellow bloggers!  It’s amazing how many people you are able to meet and from all over the world who share things in common with you!  I’ve had a lot of fun blogging but some of the most fun comes from connecting and chatting with my blog friends.

I nominate the following people:

2nd Sisterhood of the World Blogger Award

Hey everyone!  I have been nominated a second time for the Sisterhood of the World Bloggers Award!  Thank you so much to Bookloversblog for nominating me! I feel so honored 🙂  If you haven’t checked out her blog before, what are you waiting for?!?!  GO!  😉

The Rules:

-Thank the blogger who nominated you and link back to their blog.

-Display the Sisterhood of The World icon on your blog.

-Answer the ten questions given by the person who nominated you.

-Nominate 10 bloggers to do the award.

The Questions from Bookloversblog:

1. Do you DNF books? Or are you like me and find it really hard to, so you just push through to the end even if you hate the book and it takes you forever? — I never used to DNF a book but within the last year I started to.  It’s really hard for me though.  I try to give it until at least 40% of the book before I decide.  My main reason for this is because there are SO many books I want to read so I don’t want to struggle to get through a book I don’t like when I could be moving on to a better book.

2. What movie can you watch over and over again and still love? — Wow… I definitely don’t have one answer for this one.  After books, my next love is movies and I LOVE rewatching movies so I could easily go on and on.  I’ll just name a few: Gone With the Wind, Pride & Prejudice (2005), Mansfield Park, Lord of the Rings, Anne of Green Gables, etc.  Oddly enough, most of these are also some of my favorite books 🙂

3. Do you reread books? Why? Why not if you don’t? — Yes yes yes.  I love to reread books.  I feel like everytime I reread a book I discover something new or something I missed the last time I read it.  Plus I also love to revisit characters and the worlds they live in.

4. What is the most shocking book ending you’ve ever read? (You can just say the book if you don’t want to get spoilery!) — This one was easy… I’m still struggling with the ending of Allegiant by Veronica Roth.

5. Is there a specific book that got you into reading? — Kind of a funny answer but the phone book.  There is a photo of me as a toddler reading the phone book out loud in my play kitchen.  My parents said I would “read” from it all the time.  I have loved reading for as long as I can remember so I just trace it back to this photo.  I always thought there was magic in the written word, even if it was just a list of people’s names and addresses 😉

6. What is your most hated book? Why? — Hmm I don’t really know how to answer this one.  The one book that comes to mind is a book I haven’t even read.  The plot of the story is just what I hate so I have refused to read this book and any other book written by this author.  When my little brother was 16 he was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer with a 25% chance of survival.  That was a very hard time in my family’s life.  He beat those odds and survived, now age 24 and about to marry his college sweetheart.  But just knowing first hand how rough it is to have a sibling go through cancer, I refuse to read My Sister’s Keeper by Jodi Piccoult.  I really don’t like reading any books that involve childhood cancer but a book about a child conceived solely to be a bone marrow donor to her sister who has leukemia is one that I have absolutely no desire to read.

7. What was the last book that surprised you by how much you liked it? — Probably Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe.  It was our May book for book club but I was seriously thinking about just skipping that month because it honestly sounded a little boring to me.  But I ended up really loving it!

8. Do you have a specific genre that you like to read from more than others? Or do you try a little bit of everything? Are there any genres you won’t read from? — There are a couple of genres I tend to gravitate towards but I do like to read a variety of genres from both adult and YA categories.  My main favorites are historical fiction, fantasy, paranormal and non-fiction history.

9. If you could be any character from a book, who would you chose? — Probably Hermione Granger.  In my opinion she is such a badass.  Insanely clever and smart, incredible witch and she can even kick some ass when need be!  And she also has two of the best friends anybody could ever ask for.

10. What is your favourite Disney movie? Random, I know, but I’m curious! — I’m always torn between two.  The first Disney movie I ever saw in theaters at the age of almost 3 was The Little Mermaid and I totally love that movie.  But I also love love Pocahontas.

So as I did last time, I’m going to leave it at that and not nominate anyone specifically because most everyone I know has already been nominated.

Sisterhood of the World Bloggers Award

I’m a little late on posting this but a huge thank you to Ashley @ Dear World… for nominating me for this cool award!  If you haven’t already checked out her blog, do so because she is awesome and one of my favorite bloggers.

There are five rules that every nominee must follow:

♦ Thank the blogger that nominated you and link their website.
♦ Insert the award logo in your blog post.
♦ Answer the ten questions that were provided by the nominator.
♦ Nominate ten bloggers.
♦ Create ten new questions for your nominees.

Ashley’s Questions are:

  1. If you were stuck in a book, which one would it be? – Hmm this is a tough choice.  There are so many books I would love to be stuck in.  I suppose I’m going to have to go with Harry Potter (any of them).
  2. What is your go to book when you are feeling down? – Probably Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen.  I love everything about this book and the building of Elizabeth’s and Darcy’s relationship always puts me in a good mood.
  3. If you were stranded in the middle of nowhere, which three books would you want to have with you? – This would be a total nightmare!  I would choose Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen, Mansfield Park by Jane Austen and Outlander by Diana Gabaldon.  The two by Jane Austen are my favorite books but Outlander has recently become one of my favorite books and it’s long so I would have plenty of time to read it.
  4. What is a book that made you laugh the hardest? – I don’t generally laugh hard when reading books.  I’ll laugh out loud but it’s more like a giggle.  The last book that made me laugh out loud was Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli.
  5. What is one book that you wish was made into a movie? – Many of my favorites have already been made into movies so I’m going to switch it up and go with a book series that I wish was made into a tv show.  The Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan.  I would love to see this as a tv show and there have been a few poor attempts at it.  I honestly don’t know if they ever could do it because there is so much detail and 14 (BIG) books worth of material.
  6. What is your favorite genre and favorite book from that genre? – I have a hard time choosing just one favorite but if I really thought about it I would have to say Fantasy.  It’s such an awesome chance to escape the reality of this world and “go” someplace new.  My favorite fantasy book would have to be The Fellowship of the Ring by J.R.R. Tolkien.  The Lord of the Rings were my first steps into the fantasy genre and I have loved it ever since!
  7. What book are you dying to read? – Lately I have been dying to read A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas.  I kept going to my local Target to buy it but it was never there!  So I gave up and ordered it from Book Depository because I wanted paperback.
  8. Do you own more physical copies of books or e-books? – I definitely own more physical copies of books.  My last count was over 400.  For Kindle I have over 200 books.  I prefer physical books to e-books so I don’t usually like to spend money on e-books.  Most of the ones I have I’ve gotten for free.
  9. If you could check up on anyone from one of the books you read, who would it be? – I’d really like to check back in with Peeta and Katniss.  The ending of Mockingjay gave a little glimpse into their lives but I would like to hear more.
  10. What is a favorite book you’ve ever read and a book you didn’t like? – My favorite book ever is Mansfield Park by Jane Austen.  A book I didn’t like… there are so many.  I think my #1 book I didn’t like was The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold.  I don’t even think I finished reading it 100%.

I’m not going to nominate anyone because Ashley nominated almost everyone I would have wanted to nominate.

Happy reading 🙂

Creative Blogger Award!

img_3267I have been nominated for the Creative Blogger Award by two lovely ladies!  Thank you Ashley @ Dear World… and Alina @ Radiant Reads!  I love both of their blogs and if you haven’t visited them yet, you should go do that!

The Rules:

  • Nominate 15-20 blogs and notify all nominees via their social media/blogs
  • Thank and post the link of the blog that nominated you (very important)
  • Share 5 facts about yourself to your readers
  • Pass these rules on to them

I had kind of a hard time trying to come up with 5 new facts since I’ve had to list some for other blog awards.  But I think I came up with 5 completely new ones!

1.  In addition to having a LARGE book collection, I also have a LARGE movie and TV show collection!  My shelves are literally overflowing.

collection2.  I enjoy vacuuming.  The sound of dirt getting sucked up into the vacuum is very satisfying and I love the way carpet looks right after it has been vacuumed.

3.  I love bright colors!  Green is my favorite but I also love blue, orange, yellow, purple, etc.  When I was a teenager I had what I thought was the coolest room ever in my parent’s basement.  They let me paint it however I wanted and this was what I chose!  Green, blue, and orange, zig zagged all over the walls and the inside of my closet was yellow.  These photos are over 10 years old and my room had changed a lot since then!  I was obsessed with rearranging my furniture and gradually acquiring “better” furniture.

bedroom collage4.  My favorite comfort food is macaroni and cheese.  Doesn’t matter if it is homemade, Kraft original, deluxe, store brand or white cheddar… I LOVE IT!

5.  One of my top 5 favorite places in the world is Mackinac Island in Michigan.  It’s located in Lake Huron, just off Michigan’s upper peninsula.  Cars or any other type of vehicles are not allowed – with the exception of an ambulance and the locals use snowmobiles in the winter.  You can bike, walk or ride in a horse drawn wagon or carriage.  There is an 8.2 mile bike path around the entire perimeter of the island.  Ethan and I went there on our honeymoon and had the best time!  I can’t wait to go back someday!

MackinacCollageI’m going to nominate the following!
