Top Ten Series I’ve Been Meaning To Start

Top Ten Tuesday

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.  Each week there is a new topic and this week’s topic is: Top Ten Series I’ve Been Meaning To Start But Haven’t.

I have so many series that I’ve been wanting to start but haven’t got around to yet.  Some of them are completed and some are still being written.  All of the ones that I chose for this post are series that I own at least the first book.  Click on the photo of book one of each series to be taken to the Goodreads page.

The Lotus War trilogy by Jay Kristoff

I have become a huge fan of his since reading Illuminae and Nevernight last year.  I own the entire trilogy but haven’t picked it up to read yet.  I really need to get on that soon!

Falling Kingdoms series by Morgan Rhodes

I’ve heard so many good things about this series and it sounds like something that would be absolutely perfect for me. So I own all of the books that have been currently released (1-5).  But of course, I still haven’t started the series yet.  Maybe knowing that the final book comes out later this year will get me moving on it.

The Kingkiller Chronicle series by Patrick Rothfuss

I love adult high fantasy series so this one was a must have for my collection.  I’ve heard great things about it but haven’t been reading as many longer books lately so I’ve been passing this one over for shorter reads.  I’m trying to take an easier go at my reading and not feeling like I need to read a huge number of books per year so that I feel better about taking longer with these bigger books.

Daughter of Smoke and Bone trilogy by Laini Taylor

This trilogy has such a huge following that I had to put it on my TBR list.  And I ended up getting the whole set from Book Outlet so now I just need to read it.  I read her other book, Strange the Dreamer, and fell 10000% in love so I really can’t wait to read more of her books.

Starbound trilogy by Amie Kaufman and Meagan Spooner

I bought the first book after reading Illuminae because I wanted to read more Amie Kaufman.  But alas, it has continued to sit on my shelf unread.  Hopefully knowing they are starting another series together will push me to read this one sooner rather than later.

Worldwalker trilogy by Josephine Angelini

Initially what drew me to this trilogy was the covers.  They’re absolutely gorgeous.  Especially after the redesign.  Ordinarily I’d be a little peeved that my covers don’t match but this one doesn’t bug me so much.

The Diviners series by Libba Bray

I’ve never read any of her books yet but I loved the premise of this series.  Supernatural and the 1920s…. YES PLEASE!  I have had the first book for awhile but haven’t gotten around to reading it.

The Gold Seer trilogy by Rae Carson

Again with the gorgeous covers!! I also love blending fantasy with historical fiction so this seemed like a really great trilogy for me to read.  I own the first two books and the third one comes out this fall so hopefully I can get this trilogy started this year.

Reckoners trilogy by Brandon Sanderson

I became a fan of Brandon Sanderson when he did a fantastic job of finishing Robert Jordan’s Wheel of Time series after Jordan passed away.  I also read Mistborn and thought it was fantastic so I’m excited to read more of his books.  I have the first two books.

Three Dark Crowns series by Kendare Blake

This was one of my most anticipated books of 2016 but I guess I hyped myself up too much and ended up choosing to not read it yet.  That also happened to me with Empire of Storms by Sarah J. Maas.  I tend to get overly excited about a book releasing but then not reading it right away when it is released.  I am still very excited to read this one and the second book comes out soon.

What series have you been meaning to start but haven’t yet?

We’ve got a big snowstorm moving in today so it’s the perfect time to snuggle up with a book.  I’ve been thinking a lot about some of the series that I have started but am behind on.  Some of these are finished series and others are series I am not caught up to the most recent installment.  I posted about cutting back my challenges for reading next year to take away some of the stress but one of the things I would like to do is catch up on these series that I’m behind on.  For one reason or another, I own all of the books in this post but haven’t read them yet (with the exception of A Breath of Snow and Ashes which I am currently reading).

Top Ten Finished Series I Have Yet To Finish

Top Ten Tuesday

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.  Each week there is a new topic and this week’s topic is:   Ten Finished Series I Have YET to Finish.

At first I was planning to include series that haven’t been finished yet because I couldn’t think of many that were.  But then I ended up with coming up with plenty.  Some I have read one or more of the books, others I haven’t even started.  There are also a couple that I read the first book and have decided to not finish the rest of the series.

  • All Souls Trilogy by Deborah Harkness – This had been on my TBR for a long time and I finally got around to reading it a few weeks ago.  I really enjoyed it so I ended up buying the 2nd and 3rd book on my Friday book haul.  I can’t wait to read them and will definitely be finishing this series by the end of the year.
  • The Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett – This is a duology that I have owned for quite some time and still haven’t picked it up yet.  I really want to read them though so hopefully some time next year.
  • The Wolves of Mercy Falls series by Maggie Stiefvater – I read the first one in April as a part of the Reading My Library Challenge and liked it so much I bought the boxed set.  So I will definitely be finishing this series sometime in the next few months.
  • The Grisha Trilogy by Leigh Bardugo – You probably already know that I LOVE this trilogy.  I just got the paperback of Ruin and Rising a bit ago so I’ll be reading that as soon as I get through Heir of Fire and Queen of Shadows.
  • Delirium series by Lauren Oliver – This is a series I got super cheap from Book Outlet but I haven’t read any of them yet.
  • The Mistborn Trilogy by Brandon Sanderson – I have yet to read a book solely written by Sanderson but I loved his style when he completed The Wheel of Time series for the late Robert Jordan so I am eager to check out this series.  I have the boxed set.
  • The Tudor Court novels by Philippa Gregory – I’ve actually only read book 2 from this series.  I LOVE Henry VIII and his wives so I definitely need to get a move on this one.  I own all of the books.
  • The Dollanganger series by V.C. Andrews – I read Flowers in the Attic and it was just way too much for me with all of the incest so I will not be completely this series.
  • The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare – I really didn’t care much for Clary or the first book in general so this is another series that I will not be finishing.
  • The Percy Jackson and the Olympians series by Rick Riordan – This is a series I thought I would never read.  I had never really heard much about it until the movie came out for the first book and it didn’t really appeal to me.  But I found the first book at a thrift store for $0.50 so I thought I might as well give it a try sometime.  It’s still sitting on my shelf waiting for me to pick it up.  Maybe sometime in 2016.

What finished series have you not finished yet?

Book Review: Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas

Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas

Published May 7th 2013 by Bloomsbury USA Childrens (first published August 2nd 2012)

404 Pages

Goodreads Summary: In a land without magic, where the king rules with an iron hand, an assassin is summoned to the castle. She comes not to kill the king, but to win her freedom. If she defeats twenty-three killers, thieves, and warriors in a competition, she is released from prison to serve as the king’s champion. Her name is Celaena Sardothien.

The Crown Prince will provoke her. The Captain of the Guard will protect her. But something evil dwells in the castle of glass–and it’s there to kill. When her competitors start dying one by one, Celaena’s fight for freedom becomes a fight for survival, and a desperate quest to root out the evil before it destroys her world.

Review: I read this book for Bloggers’ Book Club.  Ever since I first started my book blog I had heard a lot of great things about the Throne of Glass series.  I love a good fantasy novel so I added it to my TBR.  That list is so long that I knew I probably wouldn’t get to it for awhile.  Luckily for me it was chosen for this month’s read for book club!

It took me awhile to get into this book, maybe 100 pages or so.  But once I got into it, I was hooked.  I loved the main character, Celaena, a total bad-ass assassin they call Queen of the Underworld.  Not only is she the best assassin but she also loves to read, play the piano, and fancy dresses.  She had a rough life before she became an assassin, then someone betrayed her and she wound up in one of the worst places on earth.  Even after all of that, she still manages to have a light side to her, not lost to total darkness.  The two main men in her life, Chaol and Dorian, are great each in their own way.  The world that Maas created, along with the characters, was incredible.  There were so many interesting things going on!  The Champion contest, the Eyllwe princess, the Wyrdmarks and murders, the King’s mysterious journey.  I really can’t wait to read what comes next for these characters in the sequel, Crown of Midnight!

4/5 stars

Top Ten Characters I Want To Catch Up With

Top Ten Tuesday

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.  Each week there is a new topic and this week’s topic is: Top Ten Characters You’d Like To Check In With (meaning, the book or series is over and you so just wish you could peek in on the “life” you imagine they are leading years down the line after the story ends).

I had a hard time only choosing 10 for this week!  There are so many characters that I would love to check up on and see what they’re up to.  One of the couples I wanted to check in with was Elizabeth and Darcy from Pride & Prejudice but I’ve read so many sequels that I’m okay with leaving them off the list.

  • Peeta Mellark and Katniss Everdeen – He was one of my favorite characters from The Hunger Games trilogy so I would love to see what he and Katniss are up to now, especially after reading the end of Mockingjay.
  • Rand, Egwene, Aviendha, Elayne, Perrin, Mat, Nynaeve, Lan – My favorite characters from The Wheel of Time series.  The ending had a small glimpse of Rand and his three ladies, Elayne, Aviendha, and Min but I would like to see more and what happened with my other favorite characters.
  • Lisbeth Salander and Mikhail Blomkvist – Love the Millenium trilogy so much and I have heard that there is an author who is going to be writing a fourth book.  Larsson’s children do not approve of this so it will be interesting to see what happens.
  • Sookie Stackhouse – I really disliked how Harris ended this series (and more specifically who Sookie ends up with).  I know it’s her characters but I love this series so much and feel like they are my characters too and that shouldn’t have been the way it ended.
  • Four – After that horrible ending, I want to know how Four deals with it and what he ends up doing.
  • Fanny Price and Edmund Bertram – I would really love to know what happens with these two after Austen concluded Mansfield Park.
  • Aya and Kiran – This book was awesome and I loved these two characters both individually and together.  I would very much like to know how their life is now with all of the things that happened at the end of this book.
  • Anna and Etienne – I just finished reading this book yesterday and loved these two!  They were just starting off their official relationship when the book ended and I need more!  So cute!
  • Lena and Ethan – I love the Caster Chronicles series, especially Lena and Ethan so I would love to know how things are for them now that their part of the series is over.
  • Nick and Amy – Their story was such a crazy one that I just HAVE to know what sorts of insane things Amy is up to now!

Who are some of the characters you would love to catch up with?
