Part 1: Book Questions

“We do not sow”- A book you would not be willing to invest in

I read Vampire Academy and really hated the writing and pretty much everything about the books so even though The Glittering Court sounds really interesting, I would not buy it because of the author.

“Fire and blood”- A book that produced strong emotions

The Serpent King

Oh my gosh. There are several books that could fill this slot but I think the most recent was definitely The Serpent King by Jeff Zentner.

“Winter is coming”- Your favorite winter read

I love rereading Pride & Prejudice by Jane Austen in the winter.  I get a really cozy feeling whenever I read it.

“Family. Duty. Honor.”- A book about strong family ties

The Fiery Cross (Outlander, #5)

I love the feeling of family between Jamie, Claire, Brianna, Roger and Jemmy.  In this book especially in the series.  Their family dynamic is one of my favorite parts of this book.

“Growing strong”- A book you had low expectations of but that grew on you

The Mountain Story

I don’t always have the greatest luck choosing titles from NetGalley so when I got this ARC back in December 2014, I had super low expectations for it.  I read it, loved it and ended up giving it 5 stars!

“Ours is the fury”- A book that made you furious

I hesitated to put this here for a few reasons, the first of which being that I haven’t even finished it yet. And the second being I don’t want people to take it’s placement the wrong way.  I LOVE this book.  It is SO good!  But there is one character in it that makes me ridiculously furious!  My most recent Goodreads status updates and texts with my friend who has already read the book amount to me wanting to either go and murder this character or hire an assassin to do it for me.  I loathe this character.  She certainly gives the book drama and interest but omg I hate her haha.

“Unbowed. Unbent.Unbroken.”- A book you have unwavering devotion to

Outlander (Outlander, #1)

Never have I loved a book more than this beautiful one right there.  People have mixed feelings about it because of some horrible things that happen in it, but looking at it from a historical stand point… those things happen.

“A Lannister always pays his debts”- A book you feel indebted to

In college, I was a history major and that required a lot of reading outside of class.  That pretty much meant that I wanted nothing to do with reading for fun during my free time even though I loved reading.  But senior year, second semester when my class load was much lighter, I decided to see what all the fuss was about with this book.  The movie was going to be released in a few months so I picked up the book at Walmart and devoured it.  I immediately went back to Walmart and bought the rest of the series and read all 4 books in a weekend.  So essentially I feel indebted to this series for breaking a 4 year long reading slump.

Part 2: Fan Theories

Who do you want to win Game of Thrones?

Honesly, Tyrion is my favorite but I don’t ever see people supporting him on the Throne so I would have to go with Jon or Sansa.  I am not completely caught up on 5th season so I’m not sure what is going to happen in season 6.  NO SPOILERS PLEASE!

Who do you think will make it to the end and who do you think will die?

This is probably impossible to say.  Everyone knows how much George R.R. Martin loves to just kill off whoever, no matter how popular they are so it’s anyone’s guess who will make it to the end.

Part 3: My Game of Thrones

Would you win or die?

I would totally win because I am so awesome! 😛

What house are you?

I love House Stark and House Targaryen but if I had to choose between the two I would go with Stark.  Also, I took this quiz like The Orang-utan Librarian did and came out with House Stark so looks like I’m set with that.

As for tagging people, I tag anyone who loves (or even just likes) Game of Thrones!  Have fun! 🙂

Day 6 – 12 Days of Christmas Blogging

The halfway point is here!  And there are only 10 more days until Christmas!  I love this time of year as you’ve probably seen me say a thousand times.  I’m so excited to give everyone their gifts and spend time with my family.

Day 6 – Share a fond childhood Christmas memory

My grandparents built a beautiful log cabin in the Black Hills in South Dakota.  You may have seen my post in September of my recent trip out there.  It’s a place that looks SO magical during Christmas.  One year, my family was out there along with a bunch of my aunts, uncles and cousins.  It was so much fun.  They used to have the top level as a loft where all of us kids would sleep.  Our Christmas present that year was a trip to the local ski “hill”, Terry Peak.  I had only been skiing once or twice before and was kind of nervous.  But after going down the bunny hill a couple of times with my mom I ventured to one of the bigger hills and had an absolute blast! This is probably one of my favorite Christmas memories.

Day 3-5: 12 Days of Christmas Blogging

So I missed a few days over the weekend so I’ll just combine all three days into today’s post.

Day 3 (Saturday) – Your favorite Christmas recipe/food

Definitely my favorite would have to be all of the different Scandinavian cookies my Great Grandma and Grandma would always make on Christmas.  This would include the following: krumkake, rosettes, and sandbakkel.

Day 4 (Sunday) – Share a Christmas story or write one of your own

One year, I believe I was in kindergarten or 1st grade, and I was so excited to wake up early on Christmas morning to see what Santa had brought for me.  I woke up and went downstairs and saw this blanket covering something really big.  I thought that Santa had decided to take a nap and was still at our house.  Turns out, it was just one of my Christmas presents haha.  It was a bike which is why my parents had it covered with a blanket.

Day 5 – What is on your personal wishlist this year?

Pretty much every single one of my different wishlists is all about books.  I always have separate wishlists so there is no overlap between family, friends, TBTB Santa and OTSP Secret Sister.  But this year I have one other thing on my wishlist I gave my mom.  I have really been wanting to learn how to crochet but don’t have any of the tools or yarn yet.  So I’m really hoping that I get some crochet stuff so I can give it a whack.  My aunt is an epic crochet-er and I know I probably won’t ever be able to be on her level, I would just love to be able to make some cool scarves and blankets.  Simple but homemade and exactly the way I want it.

Day 2 – 12 Days of Christmas Blogging

Day 2: Favorite Christmas Tradition (New or Old)

Hmm… this is a tough one because we don’t really have any traditions.  My family always traded off Christmases between my mom’s family and my dad’s.  And for the last 4 years we’ve been having to coordinate with my in-laws as well.  But I suppose my favorite is the years we get to spend Christmas Eve with my parents.  We usually go to the Christmas Eve service at church.  After that we usually head back to my parents house, change into comfy pjs, sit in front of the fireplace with appetizer type food (wings, meatballs, little weinies, etc.), watch Christmas movies, do puzzles and open presents.  It’s always a fun, cozy time.

What are your favorite Christmas traditions?

Dashing Through The Snow

I was trying to think of a post to do today and with perfect timing, Ashley @ Dear World tagged me for this!  I love Christmas and this time of year so I’m excited to do this fun tag.  This tag was originally created by Astra @ A Stranger’s Guide to Novels.

The rules are simple:

  • Thank the curator.
  • Tag 5 people to spread the Christmas joy.
  • Have fun!

Now onto the questions!

Name a book you would like to see under your Christmas tree…

My Christmas lists are almost entirely books so it’s hard for me to choose just one book for this.  I have heard so many great things about this author and book.  I have only read a novella by her and really liked it so I know I want to read more.  I would like for this one to be my first full length novel by her. – November 9 by Colleen Hoover

A book you will be reading during the Christmas season!

Now that I have finished my audiobook recaps of books 1-4 of Outlander, I plan to read The Fiery Cross.  It’s a long one but one that I am most looking forward to this month.

Favorite Christmas movie!

I love Christmas and watching Christmas movies in December is one of my favorite things to do.  I have a few favorites that I like to watch every year.

  • The Family Stone
  • National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation
  • Elf
  • Home Alone
  • Love Actually
  • Little Women – technically not a Christmas movie but it always puts me in the Christmas mood.

Do you like snow?

If I didn’t have to commute to work 5 days a week I wouldn’t mind snow.  But when you have snowstorms during the week it can clog up traffic fast making my drive home even longer and scary.  It’s pretty when it first falls.  But then after a month I am done with snow.  Minnesota winters are long and the snow just gets obnoxious after awhile.

Name a character that you would like to spend your Christmas with!

Oh I definitely think I could have a pretty cozy Christmas with Jamie Fraser. 🙂

To give or to receive?

I love giving gifts.  I love finding things I know someone would love and sometimes I get so excited that I try to give them the gifts early haha.  The only thing I don’t like is having absolutely no idea what to get certain people.

What fictional place would you like to spend Christmas at?

Hogwarts. It seems like such a perfect place to spend Christmas.  The Great Hall looks absolutely perfect all decorated for Christmas.

Fondest Christmas memory!

I think one of my fondest Christmas memories was one we spent out at my Grandparent’s cabin in the Black Hills.  A bunch of my cousins were there too.  Our Christmas present was to go to the local ski slopes and spend the day skiing.  It was so much fun.  And Christmas is so magical in the mountains.

Can you say Christmas tree ten times FAST  in a row (pronouncing it correctly)!

Got it!

And I will tag:

Anyone feeling the Christmas spirit today! 🙂
