It’s that time again! Bout of Books week is coming up tomorrow! Bout of Books is a super low-key readathon where you have an entire week to read as much as you want to. I’ve lost count of how many Bout of Books that I have participated in officially and unofficially. Many of the past ones I have some conflicts that won’t allow me to fully take advantage of this week of reading and this round is no exception but I am still going to give it a go and read as much as I can, while I can. This coming weekend we are heading down to visit my brother, sister-in-law, niece, and nephew. I am SO excited for it so I probably won’t get much reading in on Friday through Sunday but I don’t care at all because I’ve been waiting so long to finally get the time to go down for a visit.

The Bout of Books readathon is organized by Amanda Shofner and Kelly Rubidoux Apple. It’s a weeklong readathon that begins 12:01am Monday, August 17th and runs through Sunday, August 23rd in YOUR time zone. Bout of Books is low-pressure. All reading-in-place times, Twitter chats, and exclusive Instagram challenges are completely optional. For Bout of Books 29 information and updates, visit the Bout of Books blog. – From the Bout of Books team

I did put together a loose TBR for the week but am not fully committing myself to read these books and only these books. If my mood changes, then I will choose something else.

  • Until I Met You by Tari Faris (ARC from Revell Books)
  • Clap When You Land by Elizabeth Acevedo
  • Winterwood by Shea Ernshaw
  • The Last Flight by Julie Clark
  • Home Before Dark by Riley Sager

I don’t really have any goals for this week beyond trying to read at least a little bit everyday even if it’s just 10 minutes before bed. I’m really looking forward to reading more this week though so I’m sure I’ll be able to read at least one book from start to finish.

Day 1 of Bout of Books is here! I’m so excited for this week of reading. I started preparing yesterday by making sure my two reading spots were clean and ready to go for reading time after work today. As I was doing so, I became curious about how other people like to read, if they have a special place in their home or if they prefer reading outside or in a coffee shop or library. So since my two spots were freshly tidied I thought I would share the two spots in my house that I do the majority of my reading.

The first spot is in my home library. I love to cozy up in this chair with a candle, a book, and a kitty or two. Nika looks like she is also excited for some quality reading time this week! In the cart next to my chair I have my candle and TBR all set to go. It’s a loose TBR so if I end up not feeling like reading any of those books during the week, I’m going to choose something new from my shelves. The one exception is my re-read of Nevernight. That will continue 100%. I will have a close-up of the TBR stack a little farther down in this post.

The second spot is in the living room. These couches are so comfortable and so are the pillows, especially the buffalo plaid ones. I also have a candle ready for this spot and my iPad to do some Goodreads updates. I anticipate spending most of the reading week down in my library but wanted to have this spot ready to go if I needed a little change.

Here is what I have for my loose TBR. I’m already in the middle of Nevernight re-read so I want to finish that one up before I choose any other book to read. I will be reading The Outsider as a buddy read with my friend Laura so this one will be probably read in small chunks. I wanted to read at least one graphic novel over the week so I chose two for my TBR to have some options.

  • Nevernight by Jay Kristoff
  • The Outsider by Stephen King
  • Sorcery of Thorns by Margaret Rogerson
  • The Turn of the Key by Ruth Ware
  • Monstress: Awakening
  • Marvel’s 1602

Today’s challenge is to introduce yourself in 6 words so here goes…

Sassenach, introvert, Ravenclaw, goofy, animal lover.

Where do you like to read? How would you introduce yourself in 6 words? What are you reading this week?

Next week is Bout of Books time again! This is my favorite readathon. I love being able to have an excuse to read all week long. The last round I only participated unofficially because I had been battling a reading slump but I’m 100% back in the reading game so I’m really looking forward to this one. If you haven’t participated or heard about Bout of Books and are wondering about it… check out this info from the Bout of Books blog.

The Bout of Books read-a-thon is organized by Amanda Shofner and Kelly Rubidoux Apple. It is a week long read-a-thon that begins 12:01am Monday, August 19th and runs through Sunday, August 25th in whatever time zone you are in. Bout of Books is low-pressure. There are challenges, Twitter chats, and a grand prize, but all of these are completely optional. For all Bout of Books 26 information and updates, be sure to visit the Bout of Books blog. – From the Bout of Books team

This round I’m only setting two goals for myself just to keep things a little more flexible. I want to read as much as I can but I know that things tend to come up so I don’t want to set myself up for disappointment lol. I don’t really have a TBR set at this point. Me being a mood reader I probably won’t make one at all or I will wait until day one of the readathon to post one.

Bout of Books 26 Goals:

  • Read at least one novel and one graphic novel.
  • Read at least 30 minutes every night in addition to my lunch hour at work.

They host a week long readathon several times a year and I try to participate as best I can every time. Some rounds are better than others. I’ve really been in a reading mood lately so this round is hitting at the perfect time. I normally try to put a TBR together but lately my moods have been changing so much that I’m going to keep it open. I am still going to give myself goals to reach though.

Bout of Books 24 Goals:

  • Read at least an hour every day.
  • Read at least 500 pages.
  • Finish at least one book.

Well, it has been a busy few days for me so I’m a little late on posting this. I feel like I had a really successful Bout of Books week which made me really happy since I was coming out of a reading slump before that. I started my new job on Monday so I’ve been a little stressed out with all of the changes so I haven’t read much since Sunday night. I finished four books and I ended up starting two others. I started Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor but then I ended up getting my hubby to watch the To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before movie so I REALLY wanted to read the sequel. I ended up deciding to just splurge on the Kindle edition since my boxed set still won’t be here for another week yet.

Day 7 Update:

Pages Read: 176

Total Pages Read: 1,286

Books Read From:

  • Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor (48 pages)
  • P.S. I Still Love You by Jenny Han (128 pages)

Books Finished:
