Day 6 – 12 Days of Christmas Blogging

The halfway point is here!  And there are only 10 more days until Christmas!  I love this time of year as you’ve probably seen me say a thousand times.  I’m so excited to give everyone their gifts and spend time with my family.

Day 6 – Share a fond childhood Christmas memory

My grandparents built a beautiful log cabin in the Black Hills in South Dakota.  You may have seen my post in September of my recent trip out there.  It’s a place that looks SO magical during Christmas.  One year, my family was out there along with a bunch of my aunts, uncles and cousins.  It was so much fun.  They used to have the top level as a loft where all of us kids would sleep.  Our Christmas present that year was a trip to the local ski “hill”, Terry Peak.  I had only been skiing once or twice before and was kind of nervous.  But after going down the bunny hill a couple of times with my mom I ventured to one of the bigger hills and had an absolute blast! This is probably one of my favorite Christmas memories.

Day 2 – 12 Days of Christmas Blogging

Day 2: Favorite Christmas Tradition (New or Old)

Hmm… this is a tough one because we don’t really have any traditions.  My family always traded off Christmases between my mom’s family and my dad’s.  And for the last 4 years we’ve been having to coordinate with my in-laws as well.  But I suppose my favorite is the years we get to spend Christmas Eve with my parents.  We usually go to the Christmas Eve service at church.  After that we usually head back to my parents house, change into comfy pjs, sit in front of the fireplace with appetizer type food (wings, meatballs, little weinies, etc.), watch Christmas movies, do puzzles and open presents.  It’s always a fun, cozy time.

What are your favorite Christmas traditions?

Day 1 – 12 Days of Christmas Blogging

Big thanks to one of my favorite people, Ashley @ Socially Awkward Bookworm, for tagging me!  Christmas is such a magical time of year so I’m really excited to participate in this challenge.  The challenge was created by StephJ from Scale Simple.

The Rules:

  • Include the photo below in each blog post
  • You may start at any point in December
  • Use the topic supplied for the post of that day
  • Make sure all posts are in December, but they don’t have to be posted consecutively (lets face it it’s a busy time)
  • Nominate 3 people after each blog to start the challenge
  • Have fun!

Day 1: List your favorite things about Christmas!

  • Christmas decorations – Christmas trees, wreaths on the door, lights, garlands, stockings, etc.  It feels so cozy to be surrounded by these things.
  • Christmas movies – There are so many great Christmas movies that I love to watch this time of year.  My absolute FAVORITE Christmas movie is The Family Stone.  And you definitely can’t go wrong with National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation.
  • Decorating Christmas cookies – Getting out the Christmas shaped cookie cutters, making the cookies and frosting, sprinkles… yes please.
  • Wrapping presents – I love wrapping presents!  Especially if they are easy, box shaped presents.  It is kind of fun trying to figure out how to wrap odd shaped things though.  I also love all of the different wrapping paper options.  The other day I found a roll of Elf wrapping paper that has Elf and “Son of a Nutcracker” on it.  I can’t wait to wrap my dad and brother’s presents in that!
  • Giving gifts – I love giving gifts.  I always have fun coming up with ideas for people.
  • Spending quality time with my family – pretty sure this one doesn’t
  • Christmas music – Whether it’s Nat King Cole or Pentatonix, I love listening to Christmas music and singing along.  My favorite carols include Carol of the Bells, God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen, and O Holy Night.

And I realize my list is pretty much exactly the same as Ashley’s lol.

As for tagging people… I’m just going to open it up to anyone who loves Christmas and is interested in this challenge.

Dashing Through The Snow

I was trying to think of a post to do today and with perfect timing, Ashley @ Dear World tagged me for this!  I love Christmas and this time of year so I’m excited to do this fun tag.  This tag was originally created by Astra @ A Stranger’s Guide to Novels.

The rules are simple:

  • Thank the curator.
  • Tag 5 people to spread the Christmas joy.
  • Have fun!

Now onto the questions!

Name a book you would like to see under your Christmas tree…

My Christmas lists are almost entirely books so it’s hard for me to choose just one book for this.  I have heard so many great things about this author and book.  I have only read a novella by her and really liked it so I know I want to read more.  I would like for this one to be my first full length novel by her. – November 9 by Colleen Hoover

A book you will be reading during the Christmas season!

Now that I have finished my audiobook recaps of books 1-4 of Outlander, I plan to read The Fiery Cross.  It’s a long one but one that I am most looking forward to this month.

Favorite Christmas movie!

I love Christmas and watching Christmas movies in December is one of my favorite things to do.  I have a few favorites that I like to watch every year.

  • The Family Stone
  • National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation
  • Elf
  • Home Alone
  • Love Actually
  • Little Women – technically not a Christmas movie but it always puts me in the Christmas mood.

Do you like snow?

If I didn’t have to commute to work 5 days a week I wouldn’t mind snow.  But when you have snowstorms during the week it can clog up traffic fast making my drive home even longer and scary.  It’s pretty when it first falls.  But then after a month I am done with snow.  Minnesota winters are long and the snow just gets obnoxious after awhile.

Name a character that you would like to spend your Christmas with!

Oh I definitely think I could have a pretty cozy Christmas with Jamie Fraser. 🙂

To give or to receive?

I love giving gifts.  I love finding things I know someone would love and sometimes I get so excited that I try to give them the gifts early haha.  The only thing I don’t like is having absolutely no idea what to get certain people.

What fictional place would you like to spend Christmas at?

Hogwarts. It seems like such a perfect place to spend Christmas.  The Great Hall looks absolutely perfect all decorated for Christmas.

Fondest Christmas memory!

I think one of my fondest Christmas memories was one we spent out at my Grandparent’s cabin in the Black Hills.  A bunch of my cousins were there too.  Our Christmas present was to go to the local ski slopes and spend the day skiing.  It was so much fun.  And Christmas is so magical in the mountains.

Can you say Christmas tree ten times FAST  in a row (pronouncing it correctly)!

Got it!

And I will tag:

Anyone feeling the Christmas spirit today! 🙂

12 Books of Christmas

Hey guys!  Last minute I have decided to sign up for Shaina Reads awesome challenge – 12 Books of Christmas.

All you have to do is read 12 books that have over 100 pages over the course of the month.  Sign-ups close at midnight EST tonight so if you’re interested in signing up, you better get a move on!

I have already surpassed my Goodreads challenge goal but I am so close to getting 150 books read this year that I want to try and get that.  So I’ll need to read 14 more books.  This challenge will definitely help me with that!

I do plan to have a TBR for December with some alternates but I haven’t finalized that list quite yet.

As I finish books, I will be updating this post with the books I read.
