May Book Haul

Hey guys!  I hope everyone had a fabulous May!  Hard to believe it is June already!  I’m still working my way towards buying less books.  I think I did a much better job this month!  June is a month with ZERO preorders!  I think it’s my only month this year without any.  I am determined to be extremely good in June.

First off I will start out with the awesome book I won from Rachel @ Confessions of a Book Nerd! She had a giveaway for her 2nd blogiversary and this was the book I chose.  I’m really excited to read it!

This month’s OwlCrate was definitely not my favorite.  The theme was steampunk and I’m not a big fan of steampunk.  However, I am a fan of Peter Pan and the book of the month is a retelling of Peter Pan.

Next up is my May special preorder of The Crown’s Game!  It was one of my most anticipated books for the year so I special ordered it from Kepler’s Books to get a personalized signed copy.  I have since read the book and I loved it!  Really looking forward to book 2!

My other preorder for May was A Court of Mist and Fury!  I still haven’t gotten around to reading this one yet but I am really looking forward to some more Rhysand.  Also, Bloomsbery had an awesome deal if you preordered ACOMAF you got this tote bag!  I love tote bags so I’m really happy to have this one to add to my collection.

I finally gave up on hoping Book Outlet would get the Game of Thrones vol. 1 & 3 graphic novels.  I got them on Amazon so I could hopefully read them soon.

After finishing The Kiss of Deception the other day, I decided I wanted it in hardcover so I got that to replace my paperback copy.  I also bought book 2, The Heart of Betrayal, and preordered book 3.

This past weekend we made a stop in at Half Price Books to see if they had any of the Captain America movies.  They were having a big 20% off storewide sale.  I didn’t find a whole lot, but that was probably a good thing!

The rest of my book haul is all from Book Outlet.  I’m not sure which of these I’m most excited for!  I’ve been dying to finishing off my collection of Jon Krakauer’s books so I was super excited to find Missoula and Where Men Win Glory.  I have also been dying for Felicia Day’s book so I literally squealed for joy when I found out Book Outlet had it.

Have you read any of these books?

January Book Hauls

As much as I told myself that I was going to chill out on buying books this past month, that did not happen at all.  Once again, I went overboard without meaning to.  I have completely run out of shelf space and have been resorting to stacking books on the floor and on my window seat.  I’m hoping that as I read through some of the older books I will find ones I don’t want to keep and slowly make space for the new ones.

The majority of my books this month came from Book Outlet.  I had a couple of big purchases from them.  Technically I bought most of them in December during the Boxing Day sale but since I didn’t get them in my hands until January I am counting them for this month.  Growing up, I loved the Princess Diaries series and had books 1-4 in hardcover.  Unfortunately my mom decided to give those away when I was off at college so I decided that I needed to get the series back.  So I was really excited to see books 1-10 on Book Outlet.

How badass are these covers underneath the jackets??!!!!

From Amazon I got a few books that were on my wishlists but didn’t receive.  I couldn’t wait any longer for these!  I also got one of my 2016 preorders – Truthwitch by Susan Dennard.

From Book Outlet I got both The 5th Wave and The Infinite Sea by Rick Yancey in hardcover and a paperback copy of The Humans by Matt Haig.  From Amazon I got The Dream Thieves by Maggie Stiefvater and Ten Thousand Skies Above You by Claudia Gray.

January was the last month of the round of OTSP Secret Sister so I got my final gift from my sister and she also revealed herself to be Jessica @ Peace Love Books!  She was such an awesome sister and I had a lot of fun writing letters back and forth with her.  We had a lot in common so it was fun getting to know her.  For the final package, she themed it Jane Austen!  So I got some great books and goodies from her.

The January OwlCrate was pretty awesome with the one exception being the book included.  I had read the book as an ARC and did not care for it much.  I am going to give the book another chance before I decide to get rid of it though.  And I got super lucky with the Funko Pop!  They had 5 different Harry Potter Funkos that they sent out to people and I was nervous that I would get one that I already have (Harry in Quidditch robes, Ron, Hermione, Dumbledore, Snape, Hagrid) but I got Harry in his school robes so PHEW!  I think my favorite things were the two pieces from Evie Bookish: a Throne of Glass quote print and Raven Boys bookmark (which of course I forgot to include in this photo).

One day this month I came home from work to find a wonderful surprise from my hubby.  He knows I am obsessed with BB-8 from Star Wars: The Force Awakens so he got me a set of socks and the Star Wars book written by Claudia Gray!

I also won a fantastic giveaway on Twitter!  I got to choose a book up to $20 on Amazon!  I have been dying for a copy of The Witches: Salem, 1692 by Stacy Schiff so I went with that one.

I won two other giveaways also.  I got Perfect Days by Raphael Montes through Shelf Awareness and Never Tear Us Apart by Monica Murphy through LibraryThing.  I will be reading both of these books for review next month.

I went to Half Price Books one day and found a few good things including some hardcovers of the Outlander series I wanted.  I already had the original hardcover of Dragonfly in Amber but this one was in much better condition.  I also had the Outlander cover but in the book club edition so it was smaller than this regular size hardcover.  I also found a replacement copy of The Reader by Bernhard Schlink.  I had the movie tie-in edition and I hate those so I finally have a regular paperback.  I used to have a copy of Mr Darcy Takes A Wife by Linda Berdoll (along with the sequel) but not sure what happened to them so I got this one on clearance.  I was also recommended to read Evelina by Fanny Burney so I found a copy of that as well.

I love the Sookie Stackhouse series by Charlaine Harris but had a split set with most in mass market paperback and the newer books in hardcovers.  I wanted to upgrade to all hardcovers which I started doing last month.  I finished upgrading this month so I now have them all in hardcover, although oddly they are different sizes.  I am giving my paperback copies to my friend who also loved the series but doesn’t own any of the books.

In February I will be cutting way down on my book buying to almost zilch.  I have a couple of pre-orders coming out but other than that I won’t be buying any other books.  I’ve got lots of things coming up I need to save for and I already have enough owned unread books to keep me busy for awhile.

December Book Haul

December is over already?!  What?!  This year has gone by so quickly.  I got some great books this month.  Several were gifts so I don’t feel so bad for having so many books on my haul this month.

So far, the best part of my haul this month was getting Shattered Blue by Lauren Bird Horowitz.  I’ve gushed about this book so much since reading it!  It was that good, you guys!  And Lauren is literally the nicest person ever!  I’ve had so much fun talking and getting to know her this month!  #NINJAOTTERSOX forever!  She not only signed my book, sent me bookmarks and posters but she and her adorable dog, Ninja, also sent my kitties some goodies!  If you missed my review, check it out here!

I also couldn’t resist buying the 20th Anniversary edition of Outlander any longer.  I had racked up some Amazon points too so it didn’t cost me that much.

Next up was a beautiful boxed set of Jane Austen hardcovers from Amazon.  They are in a gorgeous case that has a magnetic closure.  Each book has illustrations and a different color cover.

I also found some great books on Book Outlet.  Probably more than I should have but oh well.  Can’t beat those prices!  Plus, I just had to get the Book Outlet Bear… look how cute he is!

  • The Coldest Girl in Coldtown by Holly Black
  • Daughter of Smoke & Bone by Laini Taylor
  • Days of Blood & Starlight by Laini Taylor
  • A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L’Engle
  • Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi
  • Smoke and Mirrors by Neil Gaiman
  • Smith of Wootton Major by JRR Tolkien
  • Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell (signed copy)

Some of my other Book Outlet buys include the Jasper Dent series which I have heard nothing but good things about from my pal Ashley @ Socially Awkward Bookworm and The 100 by Kass Morgan.  They are supposed to arrive on Wednesday (12/30) but I haven’t had much luck with getting BO packages by the estimated delivery date.

In October I won a giveaway for Daughters Unto Devils by Amy Lukavics and it finally arrived this month!  I have been dying to read this book.

I am a person who LOVES making lists.  A few years ago my friend had given me the Music Listography book which is totally awesome!  I always wished that there was one for books and/or movies.  I finally found them and got them as well as the travel one.

Beginning January 1st I will be doing a read-along with my buddy, Erica from Looking To The Stars.  We will be reading Under the Dome by Stephen King.  I already had it on Kindle but I prefer paperbacks, so I got the paperback so I can bounce back and forth if I need to.  I am super excited to read this with her.

This month’s OwlCrate was totally awesome!  This is my 3rd box and it was definitely my favorite.  It came with the following items:

  • DaVinci’s Tiger by LM Elliott – I hadn’t heard of this one before but it sounds like something I will love!
  • Reading journal from Chronicle Books – There are 3 sections inside to write down books you want to read, favorite books and passages, and books you have loaned out.  I haven’t used it yet but I have ideas for it.
  • Reading At The Cafe soy candle from Frostbeard Studios – This candle smells like coffee and chocolate.  So good!
  • To-Do List notepad from Boy Girl Party – So cute with the book octopus!  I love lists so this is perfect for me!
  • The Little Prince magnet by Sandra Vargas – I haven’t read this book but the magnet is so cute!
  • word magnet set exclusive for DaVinci’s Tiger

For Christmas I didn’t get many books but the ones I did get are awesome!  My parents got me the Outlander coloring book!  I am SO excited about this but I’m nervous to color in it haha.  And Ethan got me Once Again by Liz Braswell & Cameron Dokey for my stocking.  I have been so into fairy tale retellings this year so I’m excited to read even more.

I got a great package from my OTSPSecretSister this month!  It’s been really fun getting to know her over the past few months.  She got me an awesome tote bag, a note pad with book tabs, a couple mechanical pencils and she even made me that beautiful scarf cowl.  Tomorrow will be the perfect day to wear it since we have a big snow storm coming in!  And she got me Glow by Amy Kathleen Ryan.  I had never heard of this book before but it sounds really good.

I also got my TBTB Santa package this month and my secret Santa, Ashley, totally spoiled me!  She got me some collections of Emily Dickinson, The Knife of Never Letting Go by Patrick Ness, the Crowley Funko Pop and she painted the awesome Castiel stemless wine glass!  And the chocolate lover in me was jumping for joy from all the chocolate she sent!  And since she is from Texas, she included a Texas magnet.  Such a thoughtful package!

For Christmas my father-in-law gave me a gift card to my favorite store, Half Price Books!  So I headed up there today.  They have a 20% off storewide sale this weekend so I was eager to take advantage of that!  I found some awesome books!  I am working on upgrading my favorite series to hardcovers so I was so happy to find some of the hardcovers for the Sookie Stackhouse series that I needed.

  • The Ask and the Answer by Patrick Ness
  • Dead Until Dark by Charlaine Harris
  • Dead As A Doornail by Charlaine Harris
  • Library Of Souls by Ransom Riggs
  • Dead And Gone by Charlaine Harris
  • Burning Bright by Tracy Chevalier
  • A Game of Thrones: The Graphic Novel vol. 2

After Half Price Books I had to make a run over to Barnes & Noble to see if they had any goodies for me.  And I was so happy to find a signed copy of Outlander by Diana Gabaldon!

In addition to these awesome physical books, I got some great deals on Kindle books this month.

  • The Orchardist by Amanda Coplin
  • A Wicked Thing by Rhiannon Thomas
  • Snow Like Ashes by Sara Raasch
  • Krampus: The Yule Lord by Bram
  • The Assassin’s Blade by Sarah J. Maas
  • Inked by Eric Smith

So that’s everything for this month!  Stay tuned for my December wrap-up and yearly survey which will be coming up soon!

September Book Haul

So much for putting myself on a book buying ban!  I told myself I was only going to get my pre-orders but I ended up buying a bunch more. I also got a bunch through giveaways so at least it isn’t as bad as it looks. IMG_20150930_192007

I decided that I loved certain series so much that I needed to upgrade my paperbacks to hardcovers.  I got A Court of Thorns and Roses, Throne of Glass series, The Grisha trilogy and The Lunar Chronicles.  I’ll be selling my paperbacks the next time I’m at Half Price Books.

My last Half Price Books run I got only a few books for myself and some for Ethan.  And of course after I took this photo I realized I was missing one I had gotten for myself.  In addition to those in the photo I also got The Complete Poems of Robert Frost.

The rest are pretty self-explanatory….

I also have some other books I have ordered but they haven’t arrived yet so I won’t be including them until my October book haul.  I have a couple of pre-orders as well next month.

I’m really looking forward to reading all of these books!  And that’s it for my haul this month!  Thanks for stopping by!  Tune in tomorrow to check out my Halloweeny TBR/TBW!

Top Ten Tuesday – Last Books To Come Into My Possession

Top Ten Tuesday

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.  Each week there is a new topic and this week’s topic is: Last Ten Books That Came Into My Possession (bought, library, review copies).

ttt714 ttt71415.1

One of the books I am currently reading is As Red As Blood by Salla Simukka which is the first book of a series by a Finnish author.  So far it is a really interesting read.  After I finish that one I will move on to Infinite by Erica Crouch which is the conclusion to the Ignite series.  Click on these links to read my reviews of the first two books and a novella – Ignite (book 1) – Entice (novella) – Incite (book 2)

For the last slot I’m just going to reuse a photo from my book haul post.  I got 4 books on the same day from a shopping trip so we’ll pretend that they equal one together.

What are some of the last books that came into your possession?
