Epic Reads Reading Decathlon Challenge!

Yesterday afternoon as I was browsing my Twitter feed, I came across this new challenge that Epic Reads put forth for people to take an epic stab at getting more books crossed off their TBR.  At first I thought, Great! This will be perfect for me! Then when I really thought about reading 10 books in 10 days… maybe not so much.  Then last night as I was starting to get ready for bed, I got hit with the biggest urge to just go for broke and do this challenge! I stayed up a little later to browse my bookshelves for books that I thought would be great for this challenge and before I could change my mind I posted on Twitter that I would be doing this challenge! Click on the photo to go to the Epic Reads website to read more about this challenge if you want to participate!

You basically choose which medal you want to shoot for and I decided to just go straight for the gold!  So I put together 10 novel length books (a couple of the books are memoirs).  The guidelines also state you can use your current read as one of the 10 books so you don’t have to wait to start the challenge.  Since I still have a little over 300 pages left of A Court of Mist and Fury, I decided that I would just start today and make that my first book of the challenge.  The nice thing about this is that there isn’t a set start date. You can choose when you want to start! Here is the stack of books I chose for this challenge.

I am starting off this challenge on page 301 of A Court of Mist and Fury.  It is 624 pages long.  Once I finish that, I will just begin picking my way through the books in the pile until my 10 days are up and I have hopefully finished them all!  I will do a recap post at the end of the 10 days but I will also be posting my progress on Twitter and Instagram (both are @pennma05) so you can follow along there to see how I’m doing.

Bout of Books 17 begins the day after I finish this challenge so I will be doing A LOT of reading in the next two weeks!  Next Friday I will be posting my TBR and goals for BoB 17.

Are you planning to do the #ReadingDecathlon?

It’s almost time for another round of Bout of Books and I can’t wait!  By far this is my favorite readathon to participate in. If you’re looking for a super low pressure readathon with fun challenges, chats, and giveaways (all optional!) then this is the readathon for you!

The Bout of Books read-a-thon is organized by Amanda @ On a Book Bender and Kelly @ Reading the Paranormal. It is a week long read-a-thon that begins 12:01am Monday, August 22nd and runs through Sunday, August 28th in whatever time zone you are in. Bout of Books is low-pressure. There are challenges, giveaways, and a grand prize, but all of these are completely optional. For all Bout of Books 17 information and updates, be sure to visit the Bout of Books blog. – From the Bout of Books team

Closer to the start, I will post my TBR and goals for the readathon!

Bout of Books 16 Wrap-up

Yesterday was the last day of Bout of Books 16!  I had a lot of fun reading during this round.  Before I started, I came up with 3 options for my TBR that I would eventually come down to and I ended up going with option 2 – finishing my backlog of ARCs.  Before I started in on the ARCs I wanted to finish The Raven King first.  It was so good!

Then I moved on to this stack of my ARCs in order.  I really liked Never Tear Us Apart and The Darkest Corners.  They both had some interesting twists.  Never Tear Us Apart will have a sequel and I can’t wait to read that one.  It ended on a bit of a cliffhanger.  I did not end up finishing Braving It yet.  Friday-Sunday were really low reading days for me because of graduations and our little mini getaway.  I didn’t even read at all on Saturday or Sunday.  But that’s okay because we had a fantastic time!

Here are my final stats for this round of Bout of Books:

Total Pages Read: 1,414

Audiobooks completed: 4

Total Books Completed: 8

Books Finished:

  • The Raven King by Maggie Stiefvater
  • Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo (audiobook re-read)
  • Never Tear Us Apart by Monica Murphy
  • Siege and Storm by Leigh Bardugo (audiobook re-read)
  • The New Guy (and Other Senior Year Distractions) by Amy Spalding
  • Ruin and Rising by Leigh Bardugo (audiobook re-read)
  • The Darkest Corners by Kara Thomas
  • Mansfield Park by Jane Austen (audiobook re-read)

Books Started:

  • Braving It by James Campbell (pg. 1-76)
  • The New Spring by Robert Jordan (0-22%)

So that was my Bout of Books!  Did you participate?

Bout of Books: Day 4 Update

q5ighFP

Another day down for Bout of Books!  While I didn’t read as much as Tuesday and Wednesday, I still had a fun day of reading.

UPDATE

Number of Pages Read: 222

Total BoB Pages Read: 1,338

Books Read From: The Darkest Corners (page 114 to the end)

Audiobook Re-reads: Mansfield Park (17-77%)

Yesterday I had to give up an hour of my reading time to mow my parent’s yard for some extra cash for our little trip this weekend.  My main goal for Thursday was to be able to finish The Darkest Corners and I met that goal.  It was a really good book.  A little slow in the beginning but once it got towards the middle and end it really picked up.  Lots of twists and the ending was something I did not see coming.

BoB Books Finished:

  • The Raven King by Maggie Stiefvater
  • Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo (audiobook re-read)
  • Never Tear Us Apart by Monica Murphy
  • Siege and Storm by Leigh Bardugo (audiobook re-read)
  • The New Guy (and Other Senior Year Distractions) by Amy Spalding
  • Ruin and Rising by Leigh Bardugo (audiobook re-read)
  • The Darkest Corners by Kara Thomas

Today will be another light reading day because my hubby graduates tonight!  So excited that he is finally done with school.  Then tomorrow and Sunday will also be pretty light with reading because we are heading up to Duluth for my brother-in-law’s graduation.  We love being in Duluth and on Lake Superior so we will be spending most of our time out and about doing things.  We’ll be staying the night up there on Saturday so I will be reading when we have down time in our hotel.  My goal for the rest of BoB is to finish my final book of Option #2 TBR – Braving It by James Campbell.  I just started it this morning on the commute to work and although I didn’t get to read very much of it, I think I will really like it.

I did not participate in yesterday’s challenge so this is the end of my post for Thursday’s update!

Bout of Books: Day 3 Update

Another day down for Bout of Books!  I had another great day of reading.  I finished another book and started my 4th book as well as finishing another audiobook re-read and starting a new audio re-read.

I think I have a really good shot at completing my Option #2 TBR pile before the end of Bout of Books!  My reading time will be cut short today because I have to mow and start packing for my mini trip this weekend.

CHALLENGE

Yesterday’s challenge was to post 5 favorites and it was your choice what the category would be so I chose to do my top 5 favorite book boyfriends.  I posted my photo on Twitter.

Jamie Fraser is my #1 book boyfriend but the 4 others are a few of my favorites as well.
