February 2018 TBR

Picture_20180203_224706655Hey everyone! After taking a long break from TBR lists, I decided that this month I felt like giving it a try again.  My goal is to read 8 books this month but I wanted to leave a little room for a couple spontaneous reads since I tend to be a mood reader.

These are the books I am really hoping to read this month.  Most of them are ones that I’ve been putting off for no particular reason but am really excited to finally get into them.  Links go to Goodreads.

  • Empire of Storms by Sarah J. Maas – I feel so behind on this series.  I loved the first 4 books but for whatever reason I ended up setting this one off to the side.  With the series ending this year I really want to get caught up with this one and Tower of Dawn.
  • Windwitch by Susan Dennard – I loved Truthwitch!! I wanted to wait until book 3 was released before I read Windwitch but the publication got pushed back and with the prequel coming out, I decided I was finally ready to start this one.
  • Blackbringer by Laini Taylor – This was a more recent edition to my collection.  After reading Strange the Dreamer last year and falling madly in love with it I have wanted to devour everything that Laini has ever written.  I’m going to be buddy reading this one with Tricia @ Bookworm Coalition sometime this month.
  • The Tiger’s Daughter by K. Arsenault Rivera – I received this as a review copy through LibraryThing months ago but was in a weird place with how I felt towards review copies so I wanted to wait until I had a break from them before diving into this one because it sounds absolutely amazing.
  • The Well of Ascension by Brandon Sanderson – I had hoped to read this one closer to when I read and loved Mistborn but of course other things cropped up and this one got set to the side.  Kind of easy to do with how big my TBR is.

What books are on your TBR for this month if you make one?

April TBR

It’s the second day of April already and I am really looking forward to my month of reading!  I wasn’t originally going to do a TBR anymore but I pretty much already know what I want to read for sure this month so I might as well do a post about it.  Before I start any of these I need to finish my read of The Winner’s Kiss by Marie Rutkoski though.  Hopefully I will finish that today because it is so good!  My brother and sister-in-law are in town from Chicago this weekend so I don’t know how much time I will have for reading.  We haven’t seen them since our awesome Duluth Thanksgiving extravaganza.

First off I have my official must-read books for April.

I am very excited for each and every one of these books!  I am going to finish up reading books 2 & 3 of The Raven Cycle to prepare myself for the release of The Raven King at the end of the month.  I will also be reading Passenger by Alexandra Bracken along with a new book club that I joined.  I’ve been in the mood for some historical fiction lately so I am also going to read one of my March acquisitions of Salt to the Sea by Ruta Sepetys.  And finally, I have been waiting YEARS to get my hands on a copy of this book – Someday, Someday, Maybe by Lauren Graham.  The total Gilmore Girls nerd in me knows I am going to love this book since Lauren Graham wrote it.

And if I get done reading those books then I have a tentative plan to read the entire Princess Diaries series.  After I woke up this morning and looked on my shelf I realized that I had missed one (Party Princess).  It had fallen towards the back of my shelf.  When I was growing up, I owned books 1-4 in hardcover but my mom decided to give those away.  Luckily I was able to get books 1-10 from Book Outlet and recently found Royal Wedding at Half Price Books.  So now that I have the entire series again it’s time that I finally read all of the books.

Have you read any of these books?

The TBR Tag

As I was browsing some of the blogs I follow, I came across this post today on Bookarahma and thought it would be fun to post my own!  Feel free to comment with your answers to any of the questions!

How do you keep track of your TBR pile?

I definitely use Goodreads to keep track of everything I want to read and everything I have read in the past – at least as far as I can remember…  Also I can just glance at the books on my shelves and know which ones I haven’t read.

Is your TBR mostly print or eBook?

Mostly print.  I don’t mind reading eBooks but I much prefer print.  I do have a million (total exaggeration) books on my Kindle that I haven’t read though.

How do you determine which book from your TBR to read next?

I always choose my book based on my mood at the time.  I can plan all I want to read a certain book next but it almost always gets pushed to the side until I’m back in the mood to read that type of book.  If I’m not in any particular mood, I base it on either which book has been on my list the longest or which book sounds the best.

A book that’s been on your TBR the longest?

Oh geez… Probably A Walk in the Woods by Bill Bryson.  I feel like I have been wanting to read this book forever!  I still need to track it down.  The last few times I’ve been to my nearest Half Price Books, they have all of his other books except that one.  *Cue my sad face*

A book you recently added to your TBR?

I think the most recent addition was either Innocents by Francesca Segal or California by Edan Lepucki

A book on your TBR strictly because of its beautiful cover?

I love the look of this cover!  If I could live anywhere, this would be the perfect place for me.  I don’t even remember what this book is about!  I just love the cover so much!

A book on your TBR that you never plan on reading?

A lot.  There are some that I would like to read but probably won’t put any effort in to tracking them down.

An unpublished book on your TBR that you’re excited for?

There are 3 at the top of my list that are unpublished!  Winds of Winter by George R. R. Martin, Iniquity by Amy A. Bartol and Sea of Stars by Amy A. Bartol.

A book on your TBR that basically everyone has read but you?

I’m sure there are a lot but I’ll go with Love in the Time of Cholera by Gabriel Garcia Marquez for this one.

A book on your TBR that everyone recommends you?

Outlander by Diana Gabaldon which I plan to read by the end of the year but as I mentioned earlier… my plans don’t always work out!

A book on your TBR that you’re dying to read?

Cinder by Marissa Meyer which I actually just started last night!

How many books on your Goodreads TBR shelf?

638!  This list needs some updating because as I was looking through I found books I have read, just in a different format.

Top Ten Tuesday

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.  Every Tuesday there is a new topic.

This is one I’ve been thinking about for awhile because I do a lot of reading over the winter.  I tend to choose my book based on the mood that I’m in so some of these might not be read by the end of winter depending on how my moods are.  I also tend to reread some of my favorites around Christmas but for the sake of this list I’m only going to include books I haven’t read yet.

1. Cinder by Marissa Meyer – just got this one this past Friday and have heard nothing but good things about it so I’m looking forward to this one.

2. Scarlet by Marissa Meyer – I love reading sequels right after I finish the book that comes before it in a series so I’ll probably read this one right away after Cinder.

3. Innocents by Francesca Segal – just picked this up in the bargain section at Barnes & Noble this weekend (which is the only section worth buying from in that over-priced store, but don’t get me started on that…)

4. Confessions of a Jane Austen Addict by Laurie Viera Rigler – This will probably come after my yearly reread of one of Austen’s novels.  I’m thinking this year will be Mansfield Park.

5. The Winter Sea by Susanna Kearsley – I’ve had this one for awhile.  I think Ethan gave it to me last year for Christmas or maybe it was the year before… Haha either way I’ve had it and am finally planning on getting to it this winter.

6. The Forgotten Garden by Kate Morton –  Another one of those books I’ve been wanting to read for a long time.

7. Outlander by Diana Gabaldon – This book seems like it’s 100% up my alley and everyone raves about it so it’s probably time I give it a go!  Plus I really want to watch the show.

8. California by Edan Lepucki – This is a book I put on my Christmas list so I’m really really hoping to get it!

9. The Memoirs of Cleopatra by Margaret George – I’ve had a big interest in Egypt and Cleopatra for a long time.  I’ve read Margaret George’s book about Henry VIII and really liked it so I’ll have to try to read this one this winter.  It is really long though so it might get put on hold.

10. Mary Queen of Scotland and the Isles by Margaret George – Another big interest for me but also another big book so it’s on the maybe pile.

What books are on your winter TBR list?  Any recommendations?
