Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. Each week there is a new topic and this week’s topic is: Top Ten Books That Would Be On Your Syllabus If You Taught X 101 (examples: YA fantasy 101, feminist literature 101, magic in YA 101, classic YA lit 101, world-building 101)
My favorite genre is Fantasy so of course I decided to go with Fantasy 101 today! There are so many other fantasy novels I have yet to read but these are some of my favorites.
- Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone by J.K. Rowling – as well as the rest of the Harry Potter series. Appeals to all ages.
- The Eye of the World by Robert Jordan – as well as the rest of The Wheel of Time series.
- The Fellowship of the Ring by J.R.R. Tolkien – as well as the rest of The Lord of the Rings trilogy
- Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas – I have only read the first two books but I can feel that this is a great fantasy series. A great, badass chick as the main character.
- The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern – Loved this book. It was so magical and beautifully written.
- A Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin – Great series. Lots of main characters, stories weaving together, etc.
- Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo – Great characters and world building.
- A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness – History, fantasy, paranormal, supernatural all rolled into one trilogy beginning with this book.
- A Thousand Pieces of You by Claudia Gray – A different take on time traveling to appeal to those, like myself, who aren’t too big on time traveling stories.
- Outlander by Diana Gabaldon – Similar reasoning behind A Discovery of Witches and A Thousand Pieces of You. There is so much about Outlander to love. It doesn’t necessarily belong to just one genre, which is another reason I love it so much. Fantasy, historical fiction, romance, etc. There is a little bit of everything with a great story, and incredible characters.
You have some awesome books on this list! I have been going through a few entries of TTT this week and I really think my college should have spent some time with you guys about putting together more interesting courses. I did actually take a Science Fiction though time reading and writing class. That was definitely the closest to these cool posts.

I almost went with Fantasy 101 this week but decided against it since I thought a lot of people would probably do it, so I did Dystopia instead! You definitely have some great books on here though.

Oh I’m so glad you put HP on your syllabus – I’ve been waiting for someone with a Fantasy 101 class to do this haha. I also love Throne Of Glass and Shadow And Bone (who doesn’t, right?) so I completely approve of your list haha.

Lovely list! I have Outlander on mine as well (historical fiction 101), and I could easily have included Shadow of Night as well, so I’m happy to see A Discovery of Witches here. I do need to read the Wheel of Time series one of these days.

Thank you! I’ll definitely have to check your list out because historical fiction is another favorite genre of mine. I’m really looking forward to seeing Diana and Matthew go back to the past in Shadow of Night! I need to track down a copy asap.
